Campbell Wrestling closes out Chattanooga 24-13

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – Levi Hopkins’ decision and a pin from Taye Ghadiali closed out a 24-13 Southern Conference dual win for visiting Campbell over Chattanooga on Sunday at Maclellan Gym.

The Camels (16-8, 7-0 SoCon) claimed their sixth straight dual victory, topping the Mocs (8-10, 5-2 SoCon) for the fourth consecutive dual.

Campbell led 9-0, registering three decisions to start the match, including an overtime 4-2 win for No. 22 Domenic Zaccone over No. 18 Brayden Palmer at 133 pounds.

After Noah Castillo put UTC on the board with a 4-1 decision at 149, Troy Nation responded for Campbell with a second period pin, topping Lincoln Heck (3:39).

The Mocs, however, claimed the next three macthups, including a 10-1 major decision for No. 12 Rocky Jordan at 174, as well as a 4-3 decision at 184 in the day’s second ranked vs. ranked bout, with No. 33 Matthew Waddell defeating No. 32 Caleb Hopkins, cutting the CU lead to 15-13.

Hopkins, ranked No. 33 at 197, then downed Jake Boyd, 6-4, and Ghadiali, ranked No. 17 at heavyweight, pinned Logan Andrew (1:46) in the first period, clinching the match, 24-13, for the Camels. … rest of story at GOcamels.com/news/2023/2/12/wrestling-closes-out-chattanooga-24-13
