1 } – Frinzi Scores a Crucial Six Points as Harvard Wrestling Defeats Columbia 19-18

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard wrestling pulled off an amazing victory Friday night against Columbia at the Malkin Athletic Center. The Crimson had many big wins in the 19-18 victory with none larger than Dante Frinzi’s victory over Angelo Rini. The first-year registered a fall 1:45 into the first period to deliver the Crimson a crucial six points. Harvard won the first five of six matches Friday evening on the way to the victory over the lions. 

“That was a good win against a very good team,” Head Coach Jay Weiss said on Friday night.  “I like how they are fighting and how different guys are stepping up. Dante got that big pin at 33 and Leo’s overtime win were huge. 2 } – Rider Gets Back on Track With Dominant win vs Edinboro

Laird’s 100th collegiate win comes in win vs Edinboro
EDINBORO, PA– The Rider Broncs Wrestling team dominated Edinboro, 28-6, to end their three-dual losing streak. With the win, the Broncs move to 5-5 on the season and 3-1 in MAC duals. 

Rider started out strong with a pair of bonus point wins from Tyler Klinsky and McKenzie Bell picking up a tech fall and a major decision respectively. Klinsky led the bout 4-1 going into the first period before outscoring Eamonn Jimenez 19-7 in the final two periods. 

For Bell, it’s his fourth major decision in his last five bouts. Bell went on to pitch a shutout vs Zach Soda 10-0 to give the Broncs a 12-0 lead after three bouts.

After giving up wins at 149 and 157, Rider would sweep the rest of the dual including wins from Ethan Laird and David Szuba. Szuba picked up Rider’s third bonus point decision of the night and his eighth bonus point victory of the year. 

Ethan Laird also picked up a monumential victory at 197 against Cody Mulligian. The win gives Laird his 100th collegiate win including 11 as a redshirt last year.

3 } – Men’s Wrestling Rolls to Pair of Dual Wins Over George Mason & American

The LHU men’s wrestling team faced a double dip of road duals on Saturday, and came out on top both times

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Facing a busy Saturday of back-to-back road duals, the Division I Lock Haven University men’s wrestling team (7-6, 4-1 MAC) toppled George Mason University (11-7, 2-3 MAC) in Mid-American Conference (MAC) action before steamrolling American University (7-9) in non-conference action.
Behind the pair of dual wins, the Bald Eagles stretched their winning streak to five in a row with just two duals remaining before the postseason.
In the day’s opening dual against George Mason, the Bald Eagles fell behind early 12-3, but responded in emphatic fashion to win five of the final six bouts and grab the 24-15 MAC win.
The Haven then capped their afternoon with a dominant 24-9 win over American University. LHU rolled out to a 12-0 lead in the opening four matches and never looked back, winning eight of ten bouts.
At the top of the Bald Eagle lineup, Anthony Noto (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima (NC State)) and Gable Strickland (Benton, Pa./Benton) both notched 2-0 days. On the day, five total LHU wrestlers went a perfect 2-0.
Noto, the nation’s 11^th-ranked 125-pounder, opened his day with a pin over George Mason’s JB Dragovich before closing his afternoon with a decision victory against American. Noto’s pin was the Bald Eagles only one on the day and came just 1:13 into the bout.
Ranked No. 31 in the latest NCAA Coaches’ Rankings, Strickland earned a major decision at 133 over Patrick Schellpfeffer in The Haven’s win over George Mason, and followed it up with a 5-1 decision over American’s Jack Maida. … rest of story at GOlhu.com/news/2023/2/11/mens-wrestling-rolls-to-pair-of-dual-wins-over-george-mason-american

4 } – Hofstra Dominates Sacred Heart; Splits A Pair Of Saturday Matches

Cambridge, MA/Fairfield, CT – Hofstra won six weights with bonus points and eight matches in total against Sacred Heart for a 43-6 victory to finish off a two-match split Saturday. The Pride lost to Harvard, 25-11, in the first match of the day.

Hofstra moved to 4-6 overall and 2-6 in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association. Harvard is 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the EIWA, while Sacred Heart is 0-11 overall and 0-5 in league action.

Chase Liardi, Jacob Ferreira, and Trey Rogers each went 2-0 on the day. Liardi had a 3-1 decision over Harvard’s Dante Frinzi and a win by fall over Ben Davoli of Sacred Heart in 37 seconds. Ferreira, ranked 26th by InterMat, decisioned Leo Tarantino of Harvard, 3-1, and then won by fall over Owen Ayotte of Sacred Heart. Rogers, ranked 29th, had a tech fall over Michael Doggett of Harvard and by fall over Sacred Heart’s Logan Michael in 2:58.

Hofstra returns to action next Saturday at home against Cal Baptist. Match time is 1 p.m. and will be the Pride’s final match of the regular season.

5 } – Mountain Hawks Close Out Dual Season With 24-12 Win At Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – In the final dual of the regular season, the Lehigh wrestling team picked up a 24-12 victory over Princeton Saturday evening at Jadwin Gym. The Mountain Hawks won seven bouts overall as a technical fall by sophomore Malyke Hines and a major decision by senior Josh Humphreys staked Lehigh to a 15-3 lead at intermission.
The win is Lehigh’s third straight as the Mountain Hawks wrap up the dual season with a 9-9 record.
Princeton (3-11) captured the opening bout as second-ranked Patrick Glory defeated first-year Carter Bailey 12-5 at 125, but Bailey did pick up a key late reversal to avoid the major decision.
Lehigh won the next four bouts, beginning with a 7-1 decision by Connor McGonagle over Anthony Clark at 133. Hines followed with a dominant 15-0 technical fall over Chris Martino at 141. 6 } – Black Knights Upset Drexel with 20-12 Win

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Army West Point Wrestling team defeated the Drexel 20-12 Saturday night. Army won six of their ten matches, #16 Ben Pasiuk defeated #5 Mickey O’Malley and senior Sahm Abdulrazzaq bested #25 Brian Bonino.  

How it Happened 

Army came out strong throughout the evening in their EIWA Conference dual against the Dragons. For their seventh EIWA dual of the season, Army’s Nate Lukez, Ben Pasiuk, Sahm Abdulrazzaq, Ethan Berginc, Julian Sanchez, and Trae McDaniel each put points on the board for the Black Knights. 

Army started competition off with the 157-weight class. Junior Nate Lukez competed against Drexel’s Tyler Williams. In the first period Lukez took a 3-2 lead with a takedown. Continuing to expand his lead. In the second period, Lukez expanded his lead with another takedown making it a 6-2 match. With 15 seconds left in the second period, Lukez took down Williams giving him an 8-3 lead. With a 9-5 lead in the third, Lukez had a takedown with 30 seconds left in the match, giving himself an eight-point lead. 7 } – Columbia University Wrestling Cruises Past Brown, 36-3

The Lions earn their 5th dual match win of the season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Angelo Rini lost the 133 bout, but the Lions never looked back as they won the next eight bouts to secure a dominating 36-3 win on Saturday night. Columbia earned its fifth dual win of the season as the team improves to 5-7 overall and 5-3 in conference action.
The match started with a Brown forfeit at 125. No. 27 Nick Babin was awarded the win and the Lions held a 6-0 lead before the first bout was played. Brown’s Hunter Adrian earned a 6-4 decision win over Rini at 133 via sudden victory to start the bouts. That would be the only Brown win of the night.
No. 25 Matt Kazimir started the Columbia scoring affair with a sudden victory win over Ian Oswalt at 141. Kazimir battled back from behind to take the bout to overtime and get the win.
Danny Fongaro followed that up with a 5-2 decision win against Ricky Cabanillas at 149. No. 23 Cesar Alvan then secured an 8-2 decision over Sam McMonagle to put the Lions up 15-3.
Andrew Garr got into the lineup at the 165 spot and he did not disappoint as he battled to earn a 3-2 decision win against Keegan Rothrock. Lennox Wolak was awarded the win at 174 via injury default by Drew Clearie.

8 } – Harvard Wrestling Cruises to 25-11 Victory over Hofstra

CAMBRIDGE, Mass – Harvard wrestling cruised to a 25-11 victory over Hofstra this afternoon at the Malkin Athletic Center. The Crimson won seven of ten matchups on Saturday to help deliver the program its second win in less than twenty-four hours. Harvard has now won three of its last four matches to bring them to .500 in EIWA play. 
Harvard Highlights 

• Diego Sotelo remained dominant by opening the matchup with a technical fall to give the Crimson an early 5-0 advantage.
• Joe Cangro recorded a 3-0 decision to give the Crimson an 8-0 lead through three matches. 
• Jack Crook recorded the first major decision for the Crimson after defeating Michael Leandrou in two periods to give the crimson another four points. 
• Trevor Tarsi broke his match open in the second period with a takedown and an escape to help deliver yet another victory. 
• Josh Kim registered the second major decision for the Crimson with an 11-3 victory
• Philip Conigliaro pulled out another victory in a close matchup via a 6-4 decision.

9} – Diakomihalis Leads Big Red To 28-15 Win Over Binghamton At Hilton HS

HILTON, N.Y. — As usual, when senior Yianni Diakomihalis is in the spotlight, he delivers. On Friday evening, he was able to shine in front of his family and hometown fans. The three-time national champion earned a first period pin to highlight the Cornell wrestling team’s 28-15 win over Binghamton on Friday evening at Hilton HS.

The sold-out crowd was delighted after a takedown of Michael Zarif a minute into the 149-pound match, the senior was able to use a tilt to gain near-fall points before squaring the Bearcats’ shoulders to the mat 2:22 into the first to extend Cornell’s team lead to 14-3.
