1 } – Gophers Outlast Badgers For Border Battle Win
MADISON – A back-and-forth contest on Saturday afternoon went the way of the No. 9 Gophers, as they knocked off No. 19 Wisconsin by a score of 19-15.
With both teams splitting the ten bouts on the day, it was Minnesota’s ability to find bonus-points that proved to be the deciding factor as the Maroon & Gold was able to find a pair of bonus-point wins in the dual.
Kicking off the dual at 149 pounds, Michael Blockhus secured a third-period fall over Aidan Medora to put six on the scoreboard for Minnesota. Blockhus was well in control throughout the match, securing seven takedowns and a pair of turns before hitting a cow-catcher midway through the final frame to pin Medora.
Wisconsin would take the next two matches to tie the dual before Bailee O’Reilly rolled to a methodical 14-4 major decision win over Josh Otto. The grad student put on a clinic in the neutral position with five takedowns in the match, and collected over three minutes of riding time in the victory.
The Gophers continued to roll at 184 pounds, where Sam Skillings would fill in for teammate Isaiah Salazar and defeat Wisconsin’s Tyler Dow by 11-4 decision. Skillings controlled the match from start to finish, taking advantage of his reattacks to take down Dow five times throughout the match.
Wisconsin came out of the halftime break by rattling off three one-point victories to jump out front 15-13 and take their first lead of the dual, but Aaron Nagao would make his return to the lineup at 133 pounds … rest of story at Gophersports.com/news/2023/2/11/wrestling-gophers-outlast-badgers-for-border-battle-win

5 } – B1G Takeaways from Week Six of Conference Dual Season
This week marked the end of the 2022-23 Big Ten dual schedule and the close of the regular season for some, while a few teams still have one more nonconference dual remaining. Penn State was named the Big Ten regular season champs, Maryland earned its first conference win since 2016 and wrestlers made final pushes to position themselves for Big Ten seeding.
Here are our takeaways, and BIG Awards at the bottom!
Hawkeyes beat up the Wolverines
Iowa has been an interesting dual meet team this season. It’s been pretty clear that they are the second-best team in the country since the start, but like most teams, injuries and some surprising results at times have had them wrestle some close duals at times this season. Wisconsin and Illinois were both closer than anyone would have guessed; however, this past Friday night in Carver Hawkeye arena we saw a team that is going to be dangerous in March. The Michigan Wolverines traveled to town in what was expected to be a fun dual to round out the B1G schedule for both teams. Sadly for Michigan, the season has taken out a lot of their wrestlers, leaving them without many of their starters. I expected we wouldn’t get Mattin at 141, and Amine at 165, but not having Ragusin out there at 133 was a surprise, and the less-than-pleasant kind. Last I’d seen of Ragusin, he was being pinned by Daton Fix, so not sure if his missing the Iowa match was rest related, or if this is some injury concern. Ragusin did wrestle against Indiana, where he pinned his opponent, so I suspect this was just some preventative maintenance. On the flip side though, it was a pleasant kind of surprise seeing Chance Lamer back in the lineup for the Wolverines. He had a tough match against Max Murin at 149, but he remained competitive against a bruising veteran in the sixth-ranked Murin. The Hawkeyes looked really good though, taking out the Wolverine backups … rest of story at https://intermatwrestle.com/articles/26505
6 } – Huskers Collect Fifth Straight Dual Victory
Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska wrestling team (11-3, 7-1) tallied seven bout victories en route to the Huskers’ 27-10 victory over Rutgers in front of 1,545 fans at the Devaney Center.
No. 5 Brock Hardy (141) highlighted the day with a technical fall, and No. 1 Peyton Robb (157) and No. 2 Mikey Labriola (174) claimed a pair of victories to remain undefeated at 22-0.
Competition started at 197 with No. 10 Silas Allred facing Billy Janzer of Rutgers (10-7, 2-6 Big Ten). Allred scored a pair of takedowns en route to the 6-0 decision. At HWT, Cale Davidson battled No. 21 Boone McDermott, but fell by major decision, 12-3.
Up next, No. 5 Liam Cronin tallied a 3-1 decision over Rutgers’ No. 16 Dean Peterson. Cronin used an escape and a late takedown in Period 3 to claim his third-straight conference victory. Boo Dryden then got the call at 133 against No. 15 Joe Heilmann. Dryden scored an opening takedown, but Heilmann responded to get the 6-3 decision.
With the Huskers trailing 7-6, Hardy flipped the momentum with a major decision over Rutgers’ Devon Britton. Hardy scored a takedown in each period and added eight nearfall points to grab the 18-3 win.
At 149, Dayne Morton struck first with a takedown in period one, answered by an Anthony White escape. A pair of stall warnings against White in the second period added to Morton’s lead. In the final period, White tallied an escape, a takedown and the riding time point to defeat Morton in a 5-3 decision.
Top-ranked Robb (157) kept his perfect record intact with an 11-3 major decision over Andrew Clark. In the opening period, Robb recorded a takedown and two nearfall swipes to jump out to the 4-0 lead. A second period reversal increased his advantage to 6-0 entering the final two minutes. A pair of takedowns and the riding time point secured the major for Robb and stretched Nebraska’s lead to 15-10.
Bubba Wilson (165) used a big third period takedown to defeat Al DeSantis in a 6-3 decision. … rest of story at https://huskers.com/news/2023/2/12/wrestling-recap.aspx
