No. 5 NC State dominates UNC, 28-6
The win clinches a share of the ACC Dual Regular Season title
CHAPEL HILL NC State closed out the regular season in dominating fashion, defeating rival UNC 28-6 on the road.
With the win, the Pack is 14-1 overall heading into the ACC tournament next month in Raleigh.
No. 5 NC State clinched at least a share of the ACC Co-Dual Meet Champions and defeated the Tar Heels for the 10th consecutive time.
The Pack won eight of the 10 matches and had two wins over ranked opponents.
NC State started the night with a top-10 matchup in the 141 class between No. 6 Ryan Jack and No. 9 Lachlan McNeil. Jack started the match with a quick two-point takedown and McNeil countered with an escape to make it 2-1.
That would be as close as it would get the rest of the way as Jack cruised to a 7-5 win.
Jackson Arrington made it two in a row by defeating Wil Guide, 10-6, setting up the second top-10 showdown of the night.
NC State’s Ed Scott faced Austin O’Connor, ranked No.2 in the nation. O’Connor remained perfect with a 3-1 win.
Two matches later, Alex Faison pulled off an upset for the Pack, taking down No. 12 Clay Lautt. Faison, ranked No. 28 in the country, jumped out to a 5-0 lead over Lautt and never looked back.
Lautt’s only point came from an escape in the third as Faison went on to win, 6-1. The Pack led 12-3 after Faison’s win, with their top wrestler coming up. No. 3 Trent Hidlay put on a clinic versus Carson Tenold, … rest of story at GOpack.com/news/2023/2/17/wrestling-no-5-nc-state-dominates-unc-28-6
