University of Iowa sets attendance record for women’s wrestling event (probably)
IOWA CITY − The University of Iowa set a world attendance record for a women’s wrestling event on Sunday.
Most likely.
A crowd of 8,207 showed up for the Hawkeye women’s Carver-Hawkeye Arena debut, the Trailblazer Duals. That was a world record for a women’s wrestling event, according to a public address announcement at the arena. Asked later for information regarding the previous women’s wrestling attendance record, an Iowa athletics department spokesperson said that information was not readily available. The spokesperson said the university isn’t 100% certain that Sunday’s event set a record. But, considering women’s wrestling crowds are typically not large gatherings, Iowa is confident that 8,207 set the record by a comfortable margin.
It’s another historic achievement set by the program, which is the first-ever women’s wrestling Division I program at a Power Five conference school.
