Mount Olive battles in three matches at Patriot Duals
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (Dec. 1) – After battling in three dual matches versus nationally ranked NAIA programs, the Trojans suffered losses to Life and Indiana Tech before claiming a victory over Lourdes at the Patriot Duals hosted by the University of the Cumberlands on Friday.
With the results, the University of Mount Olive women’s wrestling program holds a 1-3 overall record after facing three of the top 20 programs in the NAIA Women’s Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20.

Against Life, the Running Eagles established an early 4-1 advantage following a 14-4 tech fall in the 101-weight class. Junior Samantha Miller responded with a victory via fall over Brianna Funakoshi at 109 to put the Trojans ahead by a 6-4 margin. Life countered with three consecutive wins by fall to regain a 19-6 advantage. Freshman Angelica Steffy answered with an 11-2 decision against Angie Prado at 143 to cut the deficit to 20-9, but the Running Eagles won the final four matches (two falls, two TF) to win the opening dual, 38-9.
Against Indiana Tech, Miller claimed a 10-4 decision in the initial match at 109 over Tehani Soares to take a 3-1 advantage. The Warriors answered with a win by pin in the 116-weight class before redshirt sophomore Brooke Hermel registered a 12-2 tech fall to tie the contest at 7-7. Indiana Tech reclaimed the lead with a victory via fall at 130 before freshman Brielle Bibla countered with a pin versus Carley Anderson in the 136-weight class. Allen University Women’s Wrestling Falls at D-1 Presbyterian
CLINTON, S.C. – The Allen University women’s wrestling team traveled up the road to D-1 Presbyterian College on Friday evening for their third dual meet of the season but fell to the 13th ranked Lady Blue Hose 38-8.
Allen was led once again by Cathia Timas at 155 lbs as she won by decision 4-2 to improve to 3-0 in dual meets. First-year wrestler Tonai Moore then won by a forfeit at 143 lbs while AU’s 116 pounder Jillian Lackey had to forfeit due to a medical injury. Lyric Drumgoole and Stephanie Gonzalez also each lost by technical fall. Allen is now 0-3 on the season but will next have a great chance at their first dual meet win next weekend when they return home to host Bluefield St. and Florida A&M at 1:00 PM.

USF Women’s Wrestling Defeats Minot State 34-8 in Inaugural Season Home Opener
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Sioux Falls Women’s Wrestling defeated Minot State, 34-8, in their inaugural season home opener tonight moving to a 2-0 dual record.
Ava McNeal at 101-pounds, Paw Hobza at 109-pounds, and Ciana Grate at 155-pounds all won due to forfeits while two Cougars won by fall and two by tech. falls. Paige Denke defeated Julia Petryna at 116-pounds with the fastest pin of the night at 0:22 to open her USF career, 1-0. At 123-pounds, Rei Ogden defeated Arianne Korish by a 10-0 tech. fall and sits 13-3 on the year. Mackenzie Armagost fell to Bella Hernandez at 130 pounds by a 0:49 pin.
McKenna Hendrickson fell to Keela Kary at 136-pound by a 8-1 decision. Brinley Green is now 5-5 on the season with a 12-0 tech. fall over Haleigh Lematta at 143-pounds for the Coo tallying a big 4-point throw to end the match. Zoe Adam rounded out the night for USF with a 1:56 pin over Michelle Klein at 191-pounds and advances to 10-4 in her collegiate career. #1 Lander Dominates Mount Olive, 43-3
GREENWOOD – The top-ranked Lander Wrestling team used four straight wins to open the match to open up a lead over the Mount Olive Trojans and never looked back as the Bearcats dominated to their third straight win to open the season by a score of 43-3. Lander improves to 3-0 on the season and in Conference Carolinas action while Mount Olive dropped their first match of the season at 2-1 overall and in conference play.
James Joplin (Greensboro, N.C.) set the tone for the match as he would take down and cut Lens Mathurin six different times and then used one final takedown to secure a 21-6 tech fall to give Lander a 5-0 lead. Kaden Kuenzi (Silverton, Ore.) followed that by making short work of Logan Tortual with a pin in 1:07. Isham Peace (Okatie, S.C.) had to wait until the second period to end his match but he would dominate all the same with a 19-3 tech fall in 3:33 to make it 16-0, Bearcats. Junior Downing (Redmond, Ore.) found himself in a tight bout but used a reversal in the second period and a late takedown to secure a 6-2 decision to increase the Lander lead to 19-0. Allen University Men’ Wrestling Sweeps LMU & SAU in Tri-Meet as Women Open at Home
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Allen University men’s and women’s wrestling teams opened their home seasons in a tri-meet on Wednesday evening with the Men going 2-0 while the women finished 0-2. Allen men defeated conference foe Lincoln Memorial 28-16 and NAIA foe St. Andrews 40-6 while the women fell 25-10 to LMU and 18-13 to St. Andrews.
Leading the men was senior All-Americans Drevon Wallace (149) and MJ Jackson (184) with big wins in the dual against LMU while sophomore Emmanuel Velasquez (197) won the match for the Yellowjackets. He bumped up a weight class to pin his heavier foe at 285 lbs and clinched the match for AU with his third period fall that had the crowd roaring.
Junior transfer Alex Dorce also had a big night as he won both of his matches by fall at 174 lbs to grab 12 team points for AU on the night. In the comeback win over LMU, Allen was led by a major decision win from Nyshaad Hannon at 133 as he put up 22 points while Wallace won 7-3. Allen then won the final four matches of the dual after trailing 16-7 led by Dorce’s first period fall and All-American MJ Jackson’s 8-2 win. Christian Poplous then won by forfeit at 197.
