Duke Blue Devils Outlast Davidson, 19-17
DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Duke wrestling program defeated Davidson, 19-17, in a thrilling road dual at Duke Family Performance Center in Davidson, N.C. on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Junior Logan Ferrero opened the scoring for Duke at 157 pounds, defeating the Wildcats’ Tanner Peake in a tiebreaker, 2-1.
• Davidson answered in the following two matches, securing back-to-back victories to take the lead, 6-3, heading into the 184-pound bout.
• Senior Connor Becker defeated Davidson’s Wyatt Ferguson in a 9-4 decision to even the score, 6-6.
• The Blue Devils used major decisions from sophomore heavyweight Connor Barket and freshman Raymond Adams and a tech fall from senior Logan Agin at 125 pounds to pull ahead, 19-9, with two matches remaining.
• The Wildcats battled back in their final two matches, securing eight additional points, however the Blue Devils were able to hang on for the win, 19-17.
NOTES
• Adams captured his first collegiate win, after registering a 10-1 major decision over Davidson’s John Hager.
• Barket secured the first major decision victory of his career, after besting the Wildcats’ Jake Fernicola, 13-3, in the 285-pound bout.
