Big 10 Dual Meet Season Opening Results

No. 6 Buckeyes Open B1G Competition with 36-6 win over Illini
COLUMBUS, Ohio — No. 6 Ohio State (9-1, 1-0) opened Big Ten Conference action in convincing fashion Friday with a 36-6 win over No. 25 Illinois (3-4, 0-1) Friday at the Covelli Center. 
Luke Geog got the Buckeyes off to a 5-0 lead in the opening bout at 197. Geog downed Illinois’ Peter Marinopoulos by technical fall, 18-2. Nick Feldman than won in similar fashion with a 17-2 win. 
The Buckeyes went up 16-0 when Brendan McCrone got the early pin in the 125-pound match.

Geog got the match started with a quick pair of takedowns for a 6-1 lead. He added a four-point nearfall followed by a two-point nearfall for a 12-1 advantage. After another takedown, Geog went to the second period with a 15-2 lead. HUSKERS DROP DUAL TO #2 IOWA
Lincoln, Neb. – Jacob Van Dee earned an upset and Lenny Pinto tallied a major decision, but it was not enough as the #4 Nebraska wrestling team fell to Iowa on Friday night, 22-10. 
The Huskers started at 125 where No. 7 Caleb Smith faced Iowa’s No. 5 Drake Ayala. Smith battled and scored three escapes, but Ayala scored two takedowns en route to the 7-3 decision. 
At 133, Van Dee upset No. 7 Brody Teske to even the team score 3-3. Striking first with a takedown, Van Dee led 3-1 entering the second period. He grabbed an escape and takedown in the second period. Teske tallied three escapes in the second and third periods, but Van Dee secured another takedown in the final period to secure the 10-4 decision.
No. 7 Brock Hardy fell to top-ranked Real Woods at 141 with an 8-2 decision. Woods scored seven-straight points to take the lead from the whistle. Hardy earned a point from Woods stalling and an escape point in the third period, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Woods.
No. 1 Ridge Lovett topped No. 12 Caleb Rathjen at 149 with a 6-0 decision. He used an escape, a stalling point against Rathjen and a takedown to cruise to the team’s second win of the night, tying the score 6-6. No. 3 Iowa defeats No. 6 Nebraska in Big Ten opener in Lincoln, 22-10
LINCOLN, Neb. – The third-ranked University of Iowa men’s wrestling team picked up their 15th-straight win over sixth-ranked Nebraska on Friday evening in the Devaney Center. The Hawkeyes defeated the Huskers, 22-10. Iowa finished with one bonus point win and six ranked victories. “These guys are taking anything that’s thrown at them” said head coach Tom Brands. “They know it is an important time of the year, getting closer and closer to the postseason, and they keep getting better. Wolverines Earn Five Bonus Wins in Dominant B1G Opener at Maryland

» Cameron Amine (165 pounds) and Lucas Davison (Hwt) earned falls, while Sergio Lemley (141) and Michael DeAugustino (125) scored technical falls.
» Dylan Ragusin (133) came out of redshirt and earned a 5-1 win over 19th-ranked Braxton Brown; Austin Gomez (149) and Zack Mattin (157) also earned ranked wins.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team earned five bonus wins, including pins from Cameron Amine and Lucas Davison, to cruise to a 38-3 win at Maryland in its Big Ten Conference dual opener on Friday night (Jan. 12) at the Terrapins’ XFINITY Center. The Wolverines were nearly back to full strength after missing several starters last week and claimed nine of 10 bouts, including each of the first seven, for the third straight meeting against Maryland.
Amine, ranked fifth at 165 pounds by InterMat, returned after battling illness last week and made quick work of the Terps’ Ryan Money with a first-period fall at 2:17. Amine used a bodylock to toss Money to his back for seven points and, after Money got back to his feet, returned him again to his back to secure the pin — his first of the season. Bonus Points Fuel No. 14 Wrestling to 30-11 Win over No. 21 Indiana
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 14 Rutgers wrestling (8-1, 1-0) picked up its sixth consecutive win after its 30-11 victory over No. 21 Indiana (3-1, 0-1) on Friday night in front of 3,145 fans at Jersey Mike’s Arena. The Scarlet Knights worked a 7-3 match split with the Hoosiers in their Big Ten Conference open, as No. 8 Dylan Shawver (133), No. 13 Dean Peterson (125), No. 21 Brian Soldano (184), No. 27 Jackson Turley (174) and Al DeSantis (157) all secured bonus points.
RU is now 8-1 through its first nine duals for the second consecutive season ahead of Sunday’s dual at Purdue. Rutgers owns three wins over programs who have received recognition in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll this season – No. 21 Indiana, RV Cal Poly and RV Penn. The Scarlet Knights’ 30 points on the Hoosiers marked the first time RU has put up 30 or more team points against a ranked opponent since it joined the Big Ten in 2014.
