Mount Olive Trojans roll past Coker in conference dual, 47-3

MOUNT OLIVE (Jan. 24) – After winning nine matches on Wednesday night, the Trojans extended their winning streak and cruised to a 47-3 victory over Coker in a Conference Carolinas dual meet at Kornegay Arena. With the win, the University of Mount Olive men’s wrestling program has won eight straight matches to improve to 10-1 overall behind a 5-1 mark in league action. The Trojans take a 3-2 edge in the series while winning three of the last four meetings. Meanwhile, Coker drops to 9-3 this season with a 4-3 record in conference duals.
Junior Lens Mathurin started the match with a 19-3 tech fall over Weston Bare after tallying three takedowns and a pair of four-point near falls in the 125-weight class. Redshirt junior Timothy Decatur (133) held a 9-0 advantage in the second period before an injury to Stephen Spitko forced an end to the match. With the Trojan leading by an 11-0 margin, the Cobras answered back with a 4-0 decision at 141 to trim the deficit through three matches.
Mount Olive finished the dual meet with seven consecutive victories, including a trio by fall. In the 149-weight class, redshirt sophomore Dallas Wilson delivered a dominant performance with six takedowns to post a 21-4 tech fall against Dustin Flinn. Junior Jake Nicolosi battled to sudden victory by an 8-5 decision versus Noah Korenoski before redshirt sophomore Aaron Bancroft produced a first-period fall at 165 over Obed Don. In the 174-weight class, sophomore Calan Staub registered a 52-second fall in the opening period against Benjamin Newton. Men’s Wrestling climbs to fifth in Super Region II rankings

GREENWOOD, S.C. (Jan. 19) – After winning seven straight dual meets, the University of Mount Olive men’s wrestling program climbed to fifth in the third edition of the Super Region II regular season rankings, which were released this week.
Lander continues to hold the top spot in the regional rankings at 109 points with all 10 wrestlers ranked, including six individuals positioned No. 1 in their respective weight classes. The Bearcats boasts a 10-2 record with a 5-0 mark in conference duals and ranks No. 2 nationally in the country. UNC Pembroke maintains the second slot with 94 points while three wrestlers rank No. 1 in their weight classes. Newberry sits third at 58 points with seven individuals ranked in the region, while Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive rounded out the top five. Among the 11 teams featured, the Trojans were one of four programs to feature at least seven ranked wrestlers. (Jan. 11) – The University of Mount Olive men’s wrestling program registered seven victories, including three via fall, in a 31-12 win at Belmont Abbey on Thursday night in Conference Carolinas action. With the win, the Trojans extend their winning streak to seven straight and improve to 9-1 overall behind a 4-1 record in conference duals. Mount Olive has won the last two meetings with Belmont Abbey with the record split at 2-2 all-time in the series.
