Stanford’s upset over Iowa State triggers movement in Top 10
Manheim, Pennsylvania – A weekend excursion by Stanford into Iowa provided mixed results in terms of wins and losses, but it proved to create the first big shift in the NWCA Division I Men’s Wrestling Coaches Poll released on Tuedsay.
Stanford’s 23-21 win in Ames over then-No. 6 Iowa State dropped the Cyclones five spots to No. 11, while it elevated the Cardinal to No. 14, a six-spot improvement from the previous week. The Cardinal are tied at 14 with Northern Iowa.
Stanford couldn’t repeat the feat in Iowa City as second-ranked Iowa (2-0) beat the Cardinal 32-9.
The top five remained the same as Iowa, fourth-ranked Nebraska and then-No. 7 NC State saw dual action over the weekend.
Nebraska (1-0) opened up with a 32-7 win over visiting Utah Valley, while NC State throttled Campbell 44-3 at Journeymen’s Wranglemania event in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
With Iowa State dropping to No. 11, that moved Cornell into the Top 10 for the first time this season.
Illinois had a strong weekend, defeating then-No. 19 Arizona State 37-9 and Binghamton 30-10. The Fighting Illini moved up one spot to No. 16 this week. West Virginia (1-0) won its only dual of the week over Division II Glenville State 35-10. Arizona State topped LIU 38-3 to split its weekend in Pennsylvania.

Prendergast selected Wrestler of the Week
GREENVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 12) – For a consecutive week, University of Mount Olive freshman Lillian Prendergast was named the Conference Carolinas Wrestler of the Week by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Prendergast reached the podium with a fourth-place finish behind a 4-2 record in the 103-weight class on Saturday at the Eagle Madness Open in Georgia. Following an opening-round loss, she rebounded with three consecutive wins in the consolation bracket. Prendergast produced a first-round pin over D. Tejada before earning a 14-2 tech fall versus Alyssa Archer of Lindsey Wilson. In the consolation semifinals, Prendergast won via fall over Conference Carolinas foe Lynnlie Rountree of Emmanuel. She ultimately claimed fourth place at 103 following a loss to Kira Mitchell in the third-place match.

UNC-Pembroke Wrestling Weathers Storm, Takes Down Tornado
PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke wrestling team faced a 19-14 deficit with two matches remaining, but wins from Nigel Williams and Massimo Sullivan secured the narrow 21-19 victory for the Braves in Conference Carolinas wrestling action Wednesday night at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
The Braves (2-0, 2-0 CC) improved to 9-1 in the all-time series with the Tornado (0-1, 0-1 CC).
Bryson Harper got the Braves on the board first with a decision victory at 125 pounds, before King would take the 133 and 141 pound bouts. Ninth-ranked Jake Piccirilli cut into the King lead with a dominating 21-3 tech. fall win at 149 pounds, while King answered with a decision win at 157 pounds to stretch the lead once again. Will Lowery’s reverse pin in the 165-pound match gave the lead back to the Braves, while a King win at 174 pounds saw the lead change once more. A Tornado win by decision at 184 pounds took the King lead to 19-14, before Williams kept the Black & Gold alive with a victory at 197 pounds. Vince Robinson Named ACC Wrestler of the Week
Charlotte, N.C. – Wolfpack wrestler, Vince Robinson, has been named the ACC Wrestler of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, November 12.
The redshirt freshman went 3-0 throughout Sunday’s Collegiate Classic round robin where he picked up ranked victories over No. 13 Diego Sotelo (Harvard), No. 16 Max Gallagher (Penn), and No. 19 Sheldon Seymour (Lehigh).
