#8 Lander Dispatches Emmanuel, 41-6
FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The eighth-ranked Lander Wrestling team won nine matches, all of which came via bonus point margins, en route to a dominating 41-6 win over the Emmanuel Lions on Wednesday evening inside the Shaw Athletic Center. The Bearcats won each of the nine contested matches, only giving up the six points via a forfeit at 133.
Lander improved to 9-3 overall on the season and a perfect 5-0 in Conference Carolinas competition. The Lions dropped to 2-3 overall with the same record in league play.
The match started at 149 where Garrett Wood (Fortson, Ga.) responded from a first-period deficit to earn a 20-12 major decision, giving the Bearcats a 4-0 lead. Noah Ruolo then used a 9-1 second period to grab a 16-3 major decision, doubling the lead to 8-0.
At 165, David Hunsberger (Duncan, S.C.) only needed 2:26 to earn a 17-1 tech fall to add five more points to the Lander total and Nathan Buckovich added five more with a tech fall of his own to make it 18-0, Lander, after four.
Anthony Giampeitro (Columbus, N.J.) then earned the only pin of the evening for the Blue and Gold, bringing Chase Bisel’s shoulders to the mat in 2:36, making it 24-0.
