No. 23 Wrestling Secures Second-Straight Win At Home
COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 23 University of Missouri wrestling won its second-straight dual, 21-15, over Arizona State on Wednesday night inside Hearnes Center. Four bonus-point victories propelled Mizzou to its victory. The Tigers climb to 4-7 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 action while the Sun Devils slip to 4-5 with a 1-3 conference mark.
Freshman Gage Walker battled to a near-upset victory over second-ranked and reigning National Champion Richard Figueroa, ultimately dropping a 5-4 decision at 125. Mizzou took three of the next four bouts before the break, including a pair of major decision wins from redshirt sophomore Kade Moore, who upset No. 23 Julian Chlebove at 133 pounds, and 15th-ranked Josh Edmond over Daniel Miranda at 141. No. 24 Wrestling Picks Up Home Win Over Utah Valley
COLUMBIA, Mo. — No. 24 University of Missouri wrestling picked up their first home dual win of the season with an 18-16 victory over Utah Valley. Mizzou claimed six out of 10 matches and picked up their second conference win of the season. The Tigers bump to 3-7 (2-1 Big 12), and the Wolverines fall to 5-5 (1-2 Big 12).
True freshman Gage Walker got the Tigers on the board first with a victory by decision at 125 pounds. Mizzou took the second bout of the dual as well, with Jake Crapps filling in to knock off Utah Valley’s Kase Mauger. The momentum stayed alive with 17th-ranked Josh Edmond picking up an “upset” win in the only ranked matchup of the night. Zeke Seltzer secured the fourth-straight win of the night in the 149-pound bout against Utah Valley’s Smokey McClure. The Tigers picked up a decisive decision from James Conway at 157 pounds to hold a commanding 15-0 lead at the halfway point.
