Belmont-Abbey Wrestling Splits Dual Matches with Shorter, Lander
GREENWOOD, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey wrestling team split a pair of Conference Carolinas dual matches against Shorter and Lander Wednesday evening at Lander’s Finis Horne Arena.
The Crusaders defeated the Hawks 28-27 before falling to the Bearcats 24-17. Caleb Moore won both of his matches on the evening, one by forfeit and the other a major decision victory over Lander’s Marvelous Rutledge.
Luca Giagunto won his second conference match with a pin at 149 over Shorter’s Greyson Williams and it was Kyler Pickard’s win via tech fall at 184 that helped the Crusaders earn the win over the Hawks. Against the Bearcats, the Crusaders won the first four bouts with Zachary Bergman starting off with a major decision win. The Bearcats rallied and closed out the match with a pin in the final bout. Moore Named Conference Wrestler of the Week
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Belmont Abbey wrestler Caleb Moore was named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Wrestler of the Week Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
Moore finished runner-up at the Findlay Open at 197 pounds going 5-1 at the event. He opened with a 7-3 win before a pin of Thomas Reilly of UW Parkside in 3:29 and a 16-1 technical fall of McKendree’s Lucas Liberatore.
In the quarterfinals, he posted another technical fall, defeating Grand Valley State’s Derek Badgley 15-0 before defeating Indianapolis’ Ethan Farnell on a 15-4 major decision.
