UNC-Pembroke Punches Three Tickets To NCAA Championships

GREENWOOD, S.C. –Cooper Davis, Logan Robinson, and James Bankston each punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships with third-place finishes in NCAA Super Region II action Saturday at Horne Arena.
Davis went 5-1 on the day in the 125-pound division, including a major decision, two technical falls, and a pin. Davis won his third place match with a 10-0 major decision over Belmont Abbey’s Kyle Simpson and will make his first trip to the NCAA Championships.
Robinson went 4-1 on the day at 133 pounds and will take part in his third NCAA Championships. Each of Robinson’s wins were bonus-point victories, including a 22-6 technical fall over King’s Alex Fernandez in the third-place match.
Bankston dropped his first match in the quarterfinals, but bounced back with three straight wins to finish the day 3-1, including a pin of Mount Olive’s Slade Watkins in the third-place match to advance to his first NCAA Championships.
Keegan Roberson (157 pounds), Caleb Grau (165), and Nick Williams (174) all dropped their third-place matches to bring home fourth-place finishes, while Avery Buonocore (149) and Jackson Buck (197) each took home fifth-place finishes.
