Division III to vote on women’s championship

At the 2026 NCAA Convention, the Division III membership will vote on a proposal to sponsor a Division III women’s wrestling championship. If passed, the championship would be established for the 2027-2028 academic year. In the meantime, the first NCAA-sanctioned all-division championship for women will take place March 6-7 in the Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa. The arena is the same place the NWCA DIII tournament was held in 2021 when the NCAA championships were canceled.
In the 2025-2026 regional alignment for women’s wrestling, there are 108 NCAA women’s wrestling teams assigned. 67 of those are Division III, 35 are Division II, and 6 are Division I. Huskers Win Fourth-Straight Navy Classic Title

Five Huskers claimed individual titles at the 2025 Navy Classic on Sunday, driving Nebraska to win its fourth-straight team title with 144 points.
Individually, Brock Hardy (141), Antrell Taylor (157), LJ Araujo (165), Christopher Minto (174) and Silas Allred (184) won their respective weight classes.
Eleven of the 15 competing Huskers placed, with Camden McDanel (197) capturing the runner-up finish, Jacob Van Dee (133) finishing third and Harley Andrews (285), Hayden Mills (133) and Kael Lauridsen (125) finishing in fifth. Freshman Tyler Eise (174) came in sixth in his first Navy Classic appearance. 
Hardy, Taylor, Minto and Allred completed back-to-back individual titles. Both Hardy and Allred faced top-25 opponents in the final. No. 2 Hardy won in a decision (4-3) over No. 15 Dylan Chappell of Bucknell while Allred defeated No. 19 Malachi DuVall of George Mason in a decision (SV-1, 9-6) to collect his title. The redshirt freshman Araujo collected two decisions, a major decision and a technical fall to garner first place.
The Big Red finished first out of 10 teams, as Pittsburgh (126 points) finished second and Navy (95.5 points) finished in third.

Wolverines knock off No. 14/12 Stanford, 19-12, to open season

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University opened the 2025-26 season by knocking off No. 14/12 Stanford 19-12 on Saturday night at the UCCU Center. The Wolverines won six of 10 matches, including a bonus-point victory from true freshman Zyon Trujillo. In the premier match of the night, No. 19 David Evans made his debut in Wolverine green and stole the win with a late takedown and near fall in the final 13 seconds to defeat No. 24 Aden Valencia.
“We beat a very talented team tonight in Stanford. I know they were missing some guys from their lineup, but our focus and mindset did not change,” head coach Adam Hall said, who picked up his third win over a ranked opponent in his young head coaching career. “We knew we would be tested, but we were ready for the challenge. Our team showed tonight that we also have talent, and some new faces brought a spark that we needed.”
Stanford had four ranked wrestlers out of the lineup, with two competing at the NWCA All-Star Classic. No. 4 Daniel Cardenas (157 pounds) and No. 4 Hunter Garvin (165 pounds) both competed at Rutgers University. No. 11 Nico Provo (125 pounds) and No. 17 Lorenzo Norman (174 pounds) were also out Saturday night.
In the opening match, Stanford’s Edwin Sierra took an early lead over Bridger Ricks, but the Utah Valley senior responded with a go-ahead takedown with 1:15 remaining. He rode out Sierra to secure riding time and the 7-4 win.
At 133 pounds, true freshman Geronimo Rivera faced No. 7 and All-American Tyler Knox. After an early takedown from Knox, Rivera earned a reversal to draw within a point. Knox added his own reversal in the second before trading reversals with Rivera to take an 8-4 lead after two periods. Rowan Clinches Win as Duke Comes from Behind to Defeat Sacred Heart, 19-18

DURHAM, N.C. — The Duke wrestling team won five out of the last six matches en route to registering a come-from-behind victory, 19-18, Saturday in the 2025-26 season opener against Sacred Heart in Cameron Indoor Stadium.     
The Blue Devils collected victories on the day by Aurelius Dunbar (157), Aidan Wallace (165), Gaetano Console (184), Connor Barket (HWT) and Riley Rowan (125) to score 19 of the last 22 points in the match.  Rowan closed the match with a 2-0 decision to secure the Duke win. 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sacred Heart opened the contest by taking the first four matches, jumping out to a 15-0 advantage.
  • The Blue Devils got things started in the 157-weight class as Dunbar registered a 4-2 decision in his Duke debut over AJ Falcone.After a scoreless first period, Dunbar collected a takedown to take a 3-1 lead.With the match even, 3-3, Dunbar escaped and a forced a second stalling call on Falcon to close with a 4-2 decision.
  • Seeing action this season in the 165 class, Wallace registered a 5-4 overtime decision versus Aidan Zarrella to bring the Blue Devils to, 15-6.Wallace held a 3-0 lead through the first and led 4-1 in the third before Zarella evened the match with a takedown.Wallace got an escape in the second overtime to register the victory.
  • Duke won its third match in a row as Console was impressive against Eric Wolf at 184 pounds.Console totaled three takedowns in the first period and six for the match as he rolled to the crucial technical fall.

Presbyterian Pummels First Three Opponents of New Season

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. – The fifth-ranked Presbyterian College women’s wrestling team was practically perfect on Saturday afternoon, making a statement to start the new season in lopsided victories over Newberry, Allen, and Huntingdon.
Twenty different PC wrestlers competed at least once in those three duals, beating Newberry 43-3, Allen 43-6, and Huntingdon 43-2. Out of the 30 standard matches (excluding exhibitions), the Blue Hose went an astounding 29-1. They collected 13 pins and were simply dominant from beginning to end.
Presbyterian outscored their three opponents by a combined score of 129-11. Dating back to last season, PC has now won 11 of their last 13 dual encounters.

NWCA All-Star Classic Results 2025. Here’s Every Winner

The 2025 NWCA All-Star Classic delivered big results at Rutgers as Jesse Mendez, Lucas Byrd, and Katie Lange led a night of standout wins.
The 2025 NWCA All-Star Classic lit up Rutgers’ Jersey Mike’s Arena with a night full of statement wins and early-season drama.

NCAA champions Jesse Mendez and Lucas Byrd delivered dominant performances, while Yonger Bastida and Zack Ryder turned heads with convincing victories. 
One of the night’s biggest moments came when Ty Watters scored a sudden-victory takedown over Daniel Cardenas with a slick slide-by foot sweep straight out of Helen Maroulis’ playbook. Big Ten Network Announces 2025-26 Big Ten Wrestling Broadcast Schedule

Television coverage begins Nov. 14 with defending National Champions Penn State
The Big Ten Network today announced the 2025-26 Big Ten wrestling broadcast schedule, as the nation’s premier wrestling conference looks for a 19th consecutive NCAA Championship.
This season, 24 duals and coverage of the 2026 Big Ten Wrestling Championships will air live on the Big Ten Network and the FOX Sports App, with more than 80 matchups airing on B1G+. Coverage begins Friday, Nov. 14, with defending National Champion No. 1 Penn State hosting No. 16 Oklahoma from University Park.
Conference wrestling on BTN begins Saturday, Jan. 10, with a matchup between No. 15 Rutgers and No. 1 Penn State at 4 p.m. ET, followed by a meeting between Maryland and Wisconsin on Sunday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. ET.
The first doubleheader of the season on BTN kicks off with a battle between No. 1 Penn State and No. 4 Iowa on Friday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. ET. Following the top five dual, No. 2 Nebraska travels to take on No. 10 Minnesota in Minneapolis at 9 p.m. ET.
Throughout January and February, Friday night wrestling will be featured on BTN with primetime matchups between the best programs in the country, including a pair of tripleheaders on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30.
A meeting between Michigan State and Purdue at 5 p.m. ET, kicks off the first tripleheader on Jan. 23, followed by No. 5 Ohio State at No. 10 Minnesota at 7 p.m. ET, and concluding with No. 2 Nebraska hosting No. 4 Iowa at 9 p.m. ET. Coverage on Jan. 30 begins with Wisconsin at No. 5 Ohio State at 6 p.m. ET, leading into a battle between No. 2 Nebraska and No. 1 Penn State at 8 p.m. ET and finishes with Indiana taking on No. 13 Illinois at 10 p.m. ET.
To conclude the regular season conference schedule on BTN, Indiana hosts No. 2 Nebraska on Sunday, Feb. 15, at noon ET, followed by a matchup between No. 13 Illinois and Northwestern at 2 p.m. ET.

Levy Victorious At 285-Pounds, 11 Tar Heels Place At Southeast Open

SALEM, Va. – Jacob Levy was victorious in the 285-pound freshman/sophomore division Sunday at the Southeast Open, pacing the Tar Heels to 11 podium finishes on the day.
The true freshman won five matches on the day, four of which were bonus-point victories, outscoring his opponents 26-1 with two additional falls.
Of the 11 Carolina wrestlers who placed on the day, three were making their Tar Heel debuts. In addition to Levy, true freshmen Matthew Botello (5th at 133) and Luke Sipes (3rd at 165) placed in the freshman/sophomore division.

Duke Blue Devils Hold Wrestle-Offs Ahead of 2025-26 Opener

DURHAM, N.C. — With less than one week remaining until the 2025-26 Duke wrestling campaign gets rolling, the Blue Devils held wrestle-offs this past weekend.  Blue Devil head coach Glen Lanham enters his 14th season at Duke and returns a key nucleus that includes tri-captains Connor Barket, Gaetano Console and Aidan Wallace. 
Weight 125
Redshirt freshman Riley Rowan opened the competition with a 9-0 decision over Spencer von Savoye.  Rowan, who is from Perry, Ohio, registered eight points in the second and third periods, while adding a point for riding time for the victory. 
In another match for Rowan, he faced Evan Coles.  The match featured an exciting first period that saw all 27 points in the match.  Rowan totaled a 21-6 win. 
Weight 133
In the first match, freshman John King faced Coles and collected a 21-6 decision.  King also faced von Savoye in the second match and took an early 10-1 lead through the first two periods. King totaled two additional points in the third to seal the victory 12-5.

The Citadel WREST 2025-26 Season Preview

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel wrestling program initiates the 2025-26 campaign on Sunday, Nov. 2, trekking north to Salem, Va., for the Southeast Open, a one-day individual tournament hosted by Virginia Tech at the Cregger Center.
Throughout a banner 2024-25 campaign, The Citadel compiled a 10-4 overall record — marking back-to-back double-digit win seasons for the program — en route to a second overall finish at the Southern Conference Championship, coming up just one victory short (285 lb championship) of securing the team title. Individually, the Bulldogs claimed three individual SoCon titles via way of Gylon Sims (125 lbs), Carson DesRosier (149 lbs) and Thomas Snipes (165 lbs) while Patrick Brophy (197 lbs) and John Chesser (285 lbs) locked down silver medals within their weight classes as well.
“I am looking forwards to getting season up and running,” interim head coach Luke Welch said. “The guys looked good at the intrasquad event where they got to compete against their teammates. The new season brings new opportunities and challenges but they have been steadily working and moving forwards towards their goals. I’m just super excited to see the guys compete and I’m looking forward to watching their growth on the mat, in the classroom and as young men.”
