If you’re a fan of folkstyle wrestling and want a glimpse of the top young wrestlers in the nation, the Defense Soap Super 32 Challenge is a can’t-miss event that absolutely should be on your radar.
Not only will the 2025 event feature many of the top high school athletes in the country – including 200 nationally ranked boys and more than 150 nationally ranked girls – the two-day tournament also serves as a crystal ball of sorts, as the field will include future stars just now competing in the Elementary School 8 & Under Division.
This year, the Super 32 Challenge will be held Oct. 18-19 at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina, and we’ve got the schedule for you.

In memory of the recent passing of wrestling icon Al Bevilacqua, the Bevilacqua family invites you to attend a Celebration of Life event in Al’s honor on Saturday, November 8 at the New York Athletic Club in New York, N.Y.
The Celebration of Life will take place immediately following the men’s freestyle competition at the 2025 Bill Farrell Memorial International, which is one of the top international wrestling events held on U.S. soil annually. Every year, the Defense Soap Super 32 Challenge brings the nation’s best high school wrestlers to Greensboro, North Carolina for perhaps the deepest high school wrestling tournament on the calendar. Ranking Individual Transfers for the 2025-26 Season
The news in the offseason never seemed to stop and much of it centered around the transfer portal. While there are gripes about it (and many are understandable), it does add an element of intrigue around each collegiate season. Plenty of familiar faces have traded singlets over the past few months.
The transfer portal isn’t just limited to a few select teams. The five teams atop InterMat’s preseason tournament rankings all had at least one major addition via the portal. Other teams hope to crash that party, potentially led by additions of their own.
This year’s crop of transfers was about as good as any ever. There were two national champions who switched teams. How about a four-time All-American transfer? Or some young stars with multiple years of eligibility remaining. Yes, yes, and yes. All of the above were in and out of the portal this offseason.
And since everyone loves a good set of rankings. We’ve ranked the wrestlers that have swapped teams via the portal leading into the 2025-26 season. The criteria for these rankings were potential impact on the upcoming season and beyond. Wrestlers who have more than one year of eligibility jumped over some more accomplished wrestlers with only one year remaining.
1. AJ Ferrari: Nebraska (from CSU Bakersfield)
Even up a weight class, Ferrari will be a national title contender at 285 lbs. The 2021 NCAA champion, returned to college wrestling with Bakersfield and finished third in the nation at 197 lbs. The returning NCAA runner-up Cornhuskers could roll out a lineup that includes seven returning All-Americans and two past NCAA champions. There’s also a chance that Ferrari could have another year of eligibility after the 2025-26 campaign.
2. Rocco Welsh: Penn State (from Oklahoma State)

Pratapas, Trumble, Wilson Named September Heart of the Pack Winners
RALEIGH, N.C. –Olivia Pratapas (women’s soccer) Isaac Trumble (wrestling), and Will Wilson (football) have been named the September 2025 winners of the Heart of the Pack award, as announced by the NC State Department of Athletics on Thursday.
The Pack Performance group noted the following about this month’s recipients:
Olivia Pratapas leads by example and her voice. The same attributes that make her a great leader as a goalie is what she brings every day. Everyone looks to her for her service and attitude. She consistently gives great effort and responds in the face of adversity. For a short time, she lost her starting job but never skipped a beat in terms of leadership and effort. She managed to not only get her starting role back but play at the highest level while, being nominated captain and unofficial leader of her Pack.
It is very clear what type of person and teammate Isaac Trumble is for the wrestling team. He has to train at different times than the team on occasion, but he’s constantly giving 100% focus and intensity to improve himself to become the best, which can be difficult training alone. NC State Wrestling Announces 2025-26 Schedule
RALEIGH – The NC State wrestling team has released its full schedule for the upcoming 2025-26 season, as announced by head coach Pat Popolizio on Friday.
Featuring 14 total regular-season dates, the team’s slate holds eight home duals, in addition to wrestle-offs in Reynolds Coliseum on October 25th, five away duals, and three neutral-site duals.
Special events and tournaments include the National Duals Invitational in Tulsa, Okla., a tri-meet in Fuquay Varina, N.C., and a quad-meet in Reynolds Coliseum.
Season tickets are still available and can be purchased on GoPack.com here. Fans will be able to purchase individual tickets on this site as well once they go on sale. Start times and television designations for the duals will be announced at a later date.
The stacked schedule includes seven duals with preseason-ranked teams by InterMat dual-team rankings; No. 5 Ohio State, No. 9 Virginia Tech, No. 12 Stanford, No. 14 Cornell, No. 15 Rutgers, No. 20 North Carolina, and No. 21 Pittsburgh.

Montreat Men’s wrestling finalizes 2025-26 schedule
MONTREAT, N.C.— The Montreat College men’s wrestling team finalized its 2025-26 regular season slate earlier this fall, one that features a mixture of 15 open tournaments and dual dates. With seven events prior to the Christmas season and eight dates in the new year, the Cavaliers look forward to a busy 2025-26.
Montreat’s regular season officially gets under way on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Pepsi Patriot Open in Corbin, Ky. The Cavs then briefly dip into dual action with a head-to-head showdown at Truett McConnell University exactly one week later before three additional open tournaments conclude the month of November.
A pair of dates in mid-December highlight the Cavaliers’ schedule heading into Christmas Break. Montreat battles numerous programs on Dec. 13 at the Rocky Top Duals in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Six days later, the Cavs make a return trip to Corbin, this time for the Battle in the Bluegrass.
Ringing in the new year, Montreat spends Jan. 3-4 in Montgomery, Ala. at the Hawk Duals and Hawk Classic Open. Montreat Women’s wrestling ready for 2025-26 season
MONTREAT, N.C.— Ahead of its fourth season of competition, the Montreat College women’s wrestling team revealed its 2025-26 slate earlier this fall. With 17 regular season events on the schedule, the Cavaliers are ready for a campaign packed with duals, open tournaments and potentially postseason action.
Montreat mostly alternates between bracketed tournaments and head-to-head team duals throughout the initial month of the season. Beginning the year in East Stroudsburg, Pa., the Cavs compete on Sunday, Nov. 2 at the ESU Open. Following a midweek trip to Virginia for a dual at Emory & Henry University, the Cavaliers head south to Marietta, Ga. for the Eagle Madness Open.
NCAA Division I institutions Liberty University and Presbyterian College host Montreat in mid-November before the Cavs conclude the month at the Missouri Valley Open.
The first week of December features a flurry of duals. After squaring off against the University of Mount Olive on the 3rd, the Cavaliers then head up to Williamsburg, Ky. for the Patriot Duals on the 5th and 6th of the month. Montreat then enters Christmas Break following one final event, the Wasps Open, on Dec. 12.
January starts quickly with back-to-back days at Huntingdon College for the Red Lady Duals and Red Lady Open. The team competitions on Jan. 3 prove to be the Cavs’ lone dual event of the month as they spend the rest of January at the Southern Virginia Invitational (Jan. 10), the Tornado Open (Jan. 18) and the Warrior Open (Jan. 23-24).

Grand View University Announces the Departure of Nick Mitchell Following His Historic Tenure as Head Wrestling Coach
The winningest coach in NAIA wrestling history led the Vikings to 13 national titles, 157 All-Americans, and the longest dual win streak in collegiate history.
DES MOINES, IOWA – Grand View University announced today the departure of Head Wrestling Coach Nick Mitchell, after a historic tenure that has set the standard for excellence in collegiate wrestling. After 17 seasons leading the Vikings, Mitchell will step away from coaching to pursue an opportunity outside of collegiate athletics. “It is hard to put into words what Coach Mitchell has done for our wrestling program and for Grand View University Athletics,” said Troy Plummer, Athletic Director. “He steps away as the most successful men’s wrestling coach in NAIA history and will leave behind a legacy of remarkable achievement. Nick has been an incredible leader, mentor, and ambassador for Grand View University. His vision and relentless commitment to a championship lifestyle elevated not only our men’s wrestling program but also the entire culture of Grand View Athletics. While we are sad to see him go, we are deeply grateful for the foundation of excellence and integrity he built here. Mitchell’s impact on Grand View Wrestling and the sport as a whole is unmatched. During his 17 years as head coach, he compiled a staggering 205-12 dual record and guided the Vikings to 13 NAIA National Championships in the last 14 years, along with 12 NWCA National Dual Titles, 7 Central Region National Qualifier Championships, and 9 Heart of America Conference titles. Under his leadership, Grand View produced 157 All-Americans and 45 NAIA Individual National Champions, both NAIA records. His teams also hold the NAIA National Championship Team Scoring Record with 234.5 points in 2017 and achieved the longest collegiate dual win streak in history with 162 consecutive victories from 2011 to 2022.
Mitchell’s personal accolades include being named the 2020 USA Wrestling Coach of the Year, six-time NWCA National Coach of the Year, and nine-time NAIA National Coach of the Year.
