Robinson Crowned National Champion, Singleton and Trumble on Podium

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – After three days of competition at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, NC State added a national champion and three All-Americans to its name. The team finished in eighth place, Vince Robinson was the 125 lb national champion, Isaac Trumble placed fourth at 285 lbs and Matty Singleton placed seventh at 174 lbs.
In his first full season competing, redshirt freshman Vince Robinson was crowned the 2025 NCAA Division I National Champion at 125 lbs in Philadelphia. The Chicago native never won a state title in his high school career. In his first-ever trip to the unforgiving tournament, he tore through his bracket, taking out… Finals – No. 7 Troy Spratley (Oklahoma State)
Semifinals – No. 8 Sheldon Seymour (Lehigh)
Quarterfinals – No. 12 Dean Peterson (Rutgers)
Second Round – No. 13 Marc-Anthony McGowan (Princeton)
First Round – No. 29 Joey Cruz (Iowa)
Robinson’s title tallies as the fourth individual national championship under Pat Popolizio, and he is the first-ever lightweight wrestler to claim the honor for the Pack. The last time a freshman won the 125 pound crown was in 2018 by Spencer Lee of Iowa, that was the same year that NC State boasted its last national champion, Michael Macchiavello at 197 lbs.
In true dramatic fashion, Robinson sealed it in overtime with tiebreaker ride-outs over Troy Spratley. Tied at 1-1 after sudden victory concluded, they went to ride outs where Robinson was able to get out in less than 10 seconds. Spratley then chose to go neutral where he was unable to get a takedown.
The team finished in eighth place, marking the 11th season in a row that the team has finished in the top-20. This is the fifth top-10 finish for the program with Popolizio at the helm and the second highest placement since 2021.
In the morning session, Matty Singleton and Isaac Trumble fought through their placement brackets to determine their spots on the podium. Singleton defeated Navy’s No. 7 seed Danny Wask by a 3-1 score to land at 7th in is first trip to NCAAs. … more at … https://gopack.com/news/2025/3/22/wrestling-robinson-crowned-national-champion-singleton-and-trumble-on-podium

The Best Seniors At The 2025 NCAAs Who Have Yet To Become All-Americans
Highlighting the competitors at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships who are in their last year of eligibility but have yet to earn All-American honors.
The NCAA Wrestling Championships produce a never-ending fountain of dramatic storylines of personal triumph and anguish. One thread of the complicated tapestry of sports and emotion we call the NCAA Tournament that I like to unravel involves following the progress of competitors who have qualified for their final tournament but have yet to earn All-American honors. These wrestlers are the conduits for our vicarious thrills from witnessing an athlete achieve a lifelong goal at the last possible opportunity.
They’re fun guys to follow in the bracket is what I’m saying.
Below you will find at least one wrestler per weight who is going for his first All-American honor in his last year of college eligibility. It’s fun to root for these guys and I encourage you to do so this weekend!
NCAA seed is listed before each wrestler. Also, quick note that determining eligibility has never been more difficult than it is now so please holler if you notice anything amiss or missing!

2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Wrestling Championships – 3

TDR Editor’s Notes ; The Quarterfinals started rough for Penn State as they lost their 1st and 2nd matches of the tournament. Nebraska was briefly in first place as Minto at 165 scored a takedown at the buzzer to win 8-6. Then his next opponent Messenbrink won and put PSU back on top. ….
Well, it became overwhelming in all the action and excitement. There are many other resources and sites that provide information about the nationals so we will sign off for now and once back in N.C. We will focus on recognizing and rewarding the top wrestlers in eastern N.C. Will post more later. 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Wrestling Championships – 2

TDR Editor’s Notes ; The first day’s matches ended with Penn State having just 39.5 points which may be a record for the first day as he 10 Nitany Lions won all 20 matches. The real race will be who comes in 2nd. Nebraska leads Oklahoma State by 1 point so far. The Cornhuskers seek one of the trophies for the top 4 teams. Their best previous finish was 3rd in 1993 and 4th place finishes three imes in 1984, 208 & 2009. Oklahoma State leads all schools with 34 titles since the 1920s. Almost all teams have been overshadowedd by the dominance of Penn State in recent years. As one might imagine that in Philadelphia we are surrounded by the fans cheering “We are ….” the rest of that cheer is known to all who have heard it yelled across an arena. Will post more later. All-American Ghadiali to Transfer to Michigan

We haven’t even reached the 2025 NCAA Championships yet and the transfer season is heating up! This morning, All-American heavyweight, Taye Ghadiali formerly of Campbell, announced that he will use his final year of eligibility back in his home state to compete for the University of Michigan.
Ghadiali has qualified for the NCAA Championships on four occasions – three times after winning a SoCon title. In 2024, Ghadiali posted an 8-5 win in sudden victory over the EIWA champion, Nathan Taylor, to earn All-American honors for the first time. He would eventually finish eighth.
This year, Ghadiali fell to Isaac Trumble (NC State) by a point in the second weekend of the season, then he downed 2024 All-American and Big Ten finalist Nick Feldman at the NWCA All-Star Classic.
Ghadiali competed at the Knockout Classic in late December and was injured and ruled out for the season. Since he only competed in four events in 2024-25, Ghadiali would be eligible for an injury waiver and eligible in 2025-26.
Through four-plus years at Campbell, Ghadiali amassed a 91-24 record. What’s impressive is that he wasn’t considered a high-profile recruit and went 7-7 as a redshirt freshman. … more at … https://intermatwrestle.com/articles.html/college/big-10/all-american-ghadiali-to-transfer-to-michigan-r100117/

2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Wrestling Championships – 1

TDR Editor’s Notes ; The first session of the Championships is in the books. Over 18,000 were in attendance with a sell out crowd at the Wells Fargo Center. There were upsets, combacks often the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. OK, I’ll admit I heard hat on ‘Wide World of Sports’ on somee Saturday afternoons in my youth. The brackets and results are posted at https://www.ncaa.com/live-updates/wrestling/d1/2025-ncaa-wrestling-championships-schedule-brackets-results

Especially interesting 2nd round matches will be: …
125 – “No. 3 Eddie Ventresca of Virginia Tech is off to a fast start with a 3-0 lead over No. 30 Gylon Sims of The Citadel. He takes the win 5-1 and will have a familiar foe in ACC opponent No. 14 Spencer Moore after Moore beat No. 19 Cooper Flynn 2-0.”
No. 9 Caleb Smith of Nebraska wrestled No. 24 Nick Babin of Pitt. Match was tied after the first period, and Babin chose bottom. Smith gets the win in the final seconds of sudden victory to advance, 3-0. He’ll face Seymour of Lehigh next.”
133 – “One of the most exciting first-round matches of the session was No. 7 Nic Bouzakis of Ohio State, vs. No. 26 Kai Orine of NC State. Bouzakis cradled Orine for the fall!

Lock Haven’s No. 16 Wyatt Henson won a 9-1 major decision over No. 17 Shannon Hanna of Campbell. He’ll get No. 1 Brock Hardy of Nebraska after Hardy, 2025 Big Ten champion, beat No. 32 Nash Singleton of Oregon State 12-3.

197 – “No. 6 Mac Stout of Pittsburgh advances over No. 27 Michael Dellagatta of Cornell 12-0. He’ll now face his brother No. 11 Luke Stout of Princeton”

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – West Liberty’s Ty McGeary cemented his legacy Saturday night at the NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships, claiming his third straight 184-pound national title with a dominant 20-4 tech fall victory over Keegan Gehlhausen of Chadron State.
