NCAA DI Rankings Updated (3/4/2025)
We didn’t intend on publishing a new set of rankings for the week; however, there have already been some significant personnel changes ahead of the conference tournaments.
First and foremost, All-American and previous #1 Ryan Crookham announced he will indeed miss the 2025 postseason. He has been removed and Drake Ayala heads into the Big Ten Championships as the top-ranked wrestler in the country. Ayala is 15-1 and is riding a 14-match winning streak. He has 2024-25 wins over #2 and #3, I don’t think anyone should have an issue with Ayala at #1.
Inserted in the lineup for Lehigh at 133 is Matty Lopes. He’s been good in limited action and makes his first rankings appearance.
149 lbs also has a few tweaks. With the Big 12 releasing their brackets already, two notable names have been omitted. Carter Young for Oklahoma State and Jesse Vasquez for Arizona State. Teague Travis will replace Young and Mykey Ramos replaces Vasquez. The Big 12 will also lose two allocations at 149 lbs. That brings them down to four at 149 lbs.
Also, there was a change at 285 lbs. Army West Point will be going with Brady Colbert in place of Lucas Stoddard. From what I’m hearing Tuesday morning, the EIWA should be able to keep the allocation earned by Stoddard, since Colbert would fit within the criteria.

Eight NCAA Qualifiers Lifts #12 Lander to Third Consecutive Super Region II Title
PEMBROKE, N.C. – The 12th-ranked Lander wrestling team saw eight wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Indianapolis, with all 10 Bearcats placing no lower than fourth as they dominated en route to their third straight Super Region II title Saturday at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. Lander totaled 157 team points, 40 more than second-place UNC Pembroke and just seven shy of its program record of 164, set at the 2023 Super Region II tournament.
Kaden Kuenzi, Christian Davis, Isham Peace and David Hunsberger won Super Regional titles in their respective weight classes. It was Hunsberger’s third regional title and Peace’s second.
Marvelous Rutledge and Isaac Sheeren, who placed second in their weight classes, will join them at the NCAA Championships. Noah Roulo and Nathan Bukovich also secured spots in Indianapolis, battling through the consolation bracket to take the third and final qualifying position from the region. Lander’s dominance was evident early, as nine wrestlers reached the semifinals with 14 bonus-point wins across the first two rounds.
Anthony Giampeitro was the only Bearcat to suffer an early setback, but the graduate student battled through three consolation rounds to reach the third-place match. However, he was forced to medically forfeit, ending his season. Kuenzi breezed through his bracket, outscoring his opponents 29-0 with a pin in his opening match and a technical fall in the championship bout.

Big 12 Releases Wrestling Championship Brackets, Single Session Tickets Go on Sale
IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference has announced its seedings and brackets for the 2025 Big 12 Wrestling Championships, setting the stage for the two-day event at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Six different schools received top billing in 10 weight classes with Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Oklahoma State all earning multiple top seeds.
Iowa State, the reigning Big 12 team champion, looks to defend its title with a pair of top seeds in Evan Frost at 133 pounds and Cody Chittum in the 157-pound division. Northern Iowa’s two top seeds include Parker Keckeisen who was the Conference’s champion at 184 pounds last year. Oklahoma State earned three top seeds with Dean Hamiti (174 pounds), Luke Surber (197 pounds) and Wyatt Hendrickson (285 pounds).
The Big 12 Wrestling Championships are set to begin at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday, March 8 with the first two sessions of action. Johnson & Wales wins 2025 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship
Seven student-athletes advance to National Championships March 14-15
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The JWU (Providence) wrestling team captured the 2025 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship and saw seven student-athletes qualify for the national tournament Sunday afternoon at Bacon Field House on the campus of Wesleyan (CT) University.
Seniors Dylan Harr (197 lbs.), Joziah Fry (125 lbs.) and Hayden Brown (149 lbs.), juniors Adolfo Betancur (285 lbs.) and Jake Eckerle (141 lbs.), sophomore Jack Richardson (165 lbs.), and freshman Peyton Ellis (133 lbs.) all placed in the top three of their weight class and will represent the Wildcats in two weeks at the National Championship, which will be held at Amica Mutual Pavilion on March 14-15.

Wrestlers Claim 26th Regional Crown With Three Champions and Five National Qualifier

Head Coach Tyler Reinhart earned his first in his inaugural season and the Pitt-Johnstown wrestling program claimed its 26th overall NCAA Super Region I Championship with three champions and a pair of second-place finishers, Saturday afternoon at Fairmont State (WV) University.
Trevon Gray (125 lbs.), Chad Ozias (149 lbs.), and Dakoda Rodgers (197) all won individual titles, while Noah Gnibus (184 lbs.) and Isaiah Vance (285 lbs.) both placed second to lead the group of five Mountain Cat who earned spots in the 2025 NCAA National Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind. on March 14-15.
In addition to the national qualifiers, Tyson Cook (133 lbs.) and Cooper Warshel (157 lbs.) both finished fourth, and Mason Myers (141 lbs.), Macon Myers (1675 lbs.), and Tony Salopek (174 lbs.) all came away with fifth-place finishes.
The Mountain Cats, who put seven wrestlers into the semifinals and five into the finals, had all ten of their wrestlers place in the top-five, to win the regional title with 148.0 points, 6.5 points better than second-;place Gannon. Kutztown (122.0 points), Millersville (79.0 points), and Frostburg State (77.0 points) rounded out the top-five in the 12-team field..

2025 NCAA DIII wrestling championship qualifiers announced
INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division III Wrestling Committee announced today the participants in the 2025 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.
The championships will be held March 14-15 at the Amica Mutual Pavillion (AMP) in Providence, Rhode Island. Johnson & Wales University will serve as the host.
A total of 210 participants will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championship by placing in the top three of their respective weight classes at one of the six NCAA regional tournaments held February 28, March 1, and 2. The complete list of all wrestlers competing in the championship is available at NCAA.com and the complete seeded bracket will be available on NCAA.com Tuesday, March 11. NCAA.com will stream all sessions.

Big Ten Network presents coverage of 2025 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, March 8-9
The 2025 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, featuring five of the top 10 teams in the country, begins Saturday, March 8, on the Big Ten Network with complete coverage of college wrestling’s premier conference event.
From 11 a.m. ET to 3 p.m. ET Saturday, March 8, the opening session, including the first round and quarterfinal duals, will be broadcast on BTN and B1G+. Session two on Saturday night begins at 6 p.m. ET on B1G+, with coverage of the wrestlebacks and consolation matches. On B1G+, individual mat cameras, as well as the quad box, will allow viewers to customize their experience. Television coverage resumes for Saturday night’s semifinals on BTN from 8 p.m. ET to 10 p.m. ET.
Coverage continues Sunday, March 9, as session three begins at 1 p.m. ET on B1G+ with individual mat cameras for the consolation semifinals and seventh-place matches. At 5:30 p.m. ET, television coverage resumes as Big Ten champions are crowned on Big Ten Network, with third and fifth-place bouts airing on B1G+.
Big Ten Network veterans Shane Sparks, Jim Gibbons, Tim Johnson and Zach Mackey will anchor the weekend television broadcasts on BTN.
Before the championships coverage kicks off, a new episode of On the Mat debuts at 10:30 a.m. ET, March 8. Ahead of the final session March 9, a new episode of B1G Live: Wrestling Pregame will air at 5 p.m. ET, as Rick Pizzo and Malik Amine preview the final rounds of the Big Ten Wrestling Championships.
