TDR Editor’s Note; The finals start at 7:00. All finalists have qualified for the Nationals in Cleveland in two weeks yet all want to go there as an ACC champion. Fourteen other wrestlers will also be going. Zach Sherman of UNC took the last spot as he topped Finesilver of Duke for 5th place at 133. The team race has Virginia Teach with only a 4 point lead over North Carolina State but they will have 6 finalists while State only has 5. The TV coverage on the ACC channels sounds pretty good. INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA has released updated standings for the 2018 NCAA Wrestling Awards that will be awarded in March at the respective Division I, II and III Wrestling Championships. The inaugural NCAA Wrestling Awards were presented at the 2012 wrestling championships. The three awards, given in each division, honor the Most Dominant Wrestler as well as the student-athletes that have accumulated the most falls and the most technical falls throughout the course of the regular and postseasons. For falls and tech falls to be counted they must come against opponents in the same division. Ties in the two categories are broken based on the aggregate time.

ACC Championships
TDR Editor’s Notes; In the semifinals of a smaller (6 teams) conference tournament with the big consequence of who becomes eligible to continue on this season to the national championships in two weeks at Cleveland. The impressive scoreboard in the center of Carmichael arena displays the team scores which are updated after every match. That makes clear the meaning of every match. Action on two mats may seem quiet for fans used to the 8 – 10 mats at a high school state championship but the wrestling is intense. At every moment when there is at least one match in action it is hard to turn away as one can miss a fast blaze of action and change in scoring. It is definitely better than seeing a dual match. It is also impressive hearing so many Virginia Tech fans traveling to support their team. More details later.
