Paul Morina wins 700th match as Paulsboro captures 32nd state wrestling title
TDR Ed’s Notes; – Our Congratulations to Morina in New Jersey.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It seems like just yesterday that Paul Morina won his 600th match as Paulsboro High School head wrestling coach. And while it wasn’t that recent, it was only four years ago. On Sunday, Morina captured No. 700 as the Red Raiders won their New Jersey record 32nd state title and fourth straight overall with a 63-3 victory over Kittatinny in the NJSIAA/Rothman Orthopaedics Group 1 final. Morina is 700-43-4 in his 34-year career. The Red Raiders have lost just three times in their last 103 matches. “I didn’t even know until this week how many wins I had,” said Morina. “If you stay focused on what’s in front of you all that other stuff falls in place. These state championships are what’s important. It’s important for the kids, this group of seniors never lost a state championship and that’s special.” Rest of the Story at http://highschoolsports.nj.com/news/article/-3931531305094258363/paul-morina-wins-700th-match-as-paulsboro-captures-32nd-state-title/?mc_cid=43fb0bb18d&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
Graham wrestling quiets doubters, wins 7th straight state dual team title
TDR Ed’s Notes; As we look north to the Buckeye state for some wrestling news …

COLUMBUS — New coach. New faces. Same result.
Graham High School’s wrestling stranglehold on the OHSAA state dual team championships was questioned this season with the retirement of coaching legend Jim Jordan and the graduation of six standout seniors. Yes, the opposition closed the gap on Graham in the D-II finals. But in historic St. John Arena – host to the Ohio State University marching band’s popular Skull Sessions – the Falcons won their seventh team title in as many tries.
The win was especially satisfying for first-year coach Travis McIntosh, who served as Jordan’s assistant the previous three seasons. The buzz was this could be the season Graham’s streak of six straight dual team titles and 18 individual state team titles ended. SEARCH UNDER WAY FOR COACHES; TEAM WILL COMPETE IN FALL
By SCOTT QUEEN / squeen@centralmethodist.edu

One of the oldest sports known to man is coming to one of the oldest colleges in Missouri. Wrestling is just around the corner at Central Methodist University. Campus officials made the announcement today, committing to start men’s wrestling and women’s wrestling in the fall of 2019. In addition, they announced a fundraising campaign to renovate one of CMU’s oldest buildings, Clingenpeel Hall. Clingenpeel will be the future practice home to the wrestling program. CMU Athletics Director Brian Spielbauer this week launched a national search for two head coaches. The coaches will be tasked with recruiting 50 student-athletes–25 men and 25 women–to begin competition in the 2019-2020 season.
“We’re looking for two special individuals to run these programs,” Spielbauer said. “They will have to be focused on winning, but also focused on student success—that means helping young men and women complete their degrees and graduate, but also prepare for the job market and contribute to our society in a positive way.” President Roger Drake said the academic expectations are high for the new wrestlers. “CMU athletes are scholars and we’ll expect wrestling to compete in the classroom as well as in the arena,” Drake said. DENVER — From take downs to rowdy crowds, Saturday’s state wrestling championships at Thornton High School were action-packed. But as heated as things get on the mats, the competitors at this tournament are a special community. “Really, we all just support each other,” says Loveland junior Audrey Bankes, who placed second in the 118-lb. weight class. “We have way more fun and are joking around with each other more than the boys do. It’s just a community of wrestlers, we all want each other to do well, honestly.” For this community, Saturday’s event was an important one. It was the first recognized state tournament for girls wrestling in Colorado. “The fan base is obviously very passionate,” says CHSAA assistant commissioner Ernie Derrera. “You can tell just tell by looking at the crowd.
