2016 ACC Champions return to action in Reynolds Coliseum after $35 million renovation
2016-17 Schedule | Purchase Season Tickets | Reynolds Renovation
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State head coach Pat Popolizio has announced the Wolfpack’s 2016-17 schedule. The Pack’s slate includes 14 scheduled duals and five tournaments during the regular season, before NC State defends its ACC title by hosting the conference championship March 4 in Reynolds Coliseum.
“This year’s schedule has great balance between dual meet and individual competitions,” said Popolizio. “We made some changes to our schedule, to add more individual type competitions by adding The Tussle and Journeymen Classic along with competing in the Midlands Championships for the second straight year.” After being displaced last season due to the impressive $35 million renovation of Reynolds Coliseum, the Wolfpack will be returning to its normal home venue for the 2016-17 season. The Pack will host five duals inside Reynolds, with a pair of ACC home duals. In addition, NC State is the host for the 2017 ACC Championship, and if the Pack were to earn a bid, NC State will also host the National Duals against a Big Ten school prior to the NCAA Championships. “We are extremely excited for the opportunity to host our dual meets in the newly renovated Reynolds,” said Popolizio. “Not only will the arena be great for the wrestlers to compete in, but the experience for the fans will be unforgettable. There is a lot of history and tradition displayed in the Reynolds Walk of Fame & History project for the fans to enjoy.”

The Tar Heel Wrestling Club has named Kenny Monday as its head coach.
“Bringing Kenny on is huge for our development as a program,” UNC head wrestling coach Coleman Scott told InterMat. “We want to win national, world, and Olympic titles in Chapel Hill and he will be a huge part of that.” The 54-year-old Monday has coached at all levels of wrestling, and has worked as the wrestling coach with the Blackzilians, a mixed martial arts camp. He is a two-time Olympic medalist, winning gold in 1988 and silver in 1992. Monday was also an NCAA champion and three-time NCAA All-American at Oklahoma State. He helped guide Scott to an Olympic bronze medal in 2012. His son Kennedy Monday, a two-time state champion, is an incoming freshman at UNC. The Tar Heel Wrestling Club currently has three full-time senior level athletes training: Tony Ramos, Josh Kindig and Braden Atwood. “We are looking to build on them and add a few more in the next year or so,” Scott said.

Donations can help the return of Joliet Junior College wrestling program | Morris Herald-News

About 21/2 years ago, Dan Catarello, a local chiropractor and former college wrestler, and Pat O’Connell, a longtime Joliet Township/Joliet Central wrestling coach, struck up a friendship. Almost immediately, their conversation swung toward their passion. The questions was posed: Why shouldn’t Joliet Junior College reinstate its once-renowned wrestling program? The program, which rose to national prominence during the tenure of Hall of Fame coach and administrator Henry Pillard, has been gone since 1987. Catarello and O’Connell decided to get to work on reinstatement.
