TDR Mat Challenge 2010
The TakeDown Report challenges high schools in eastern North Carolina that do not have a wrestling team to start a program. We will donate at least $400 to a school if a wrestling program is added to the athletic department. Admittedly, a fraction of the overall costs needed to start a team yet it helps and reflects our strong belief in the importance of offering opportunities to learn through wrestling.
Letters were sent to over 50 schools explaining how students and communities can benefit by the lessons learned in amateur wrestling. Over the previous 8 years we have presented checks, of $300 each, to East Carteret, South Lenoir, Louisburg, North Johnston, East Duplin, Clinton, Franklinton, Pender County, Princeton and Ayden-Grifton High Schools. This year 7 of those schools qualified for the NCHSAA State Duals tournament. The sport is growing in North Carolina and this past year the NCHSAA added an individual state tournament for the 1A schools. We welcome donations from others who would like to join our efforts to promote the sport in new schools.
