State Champion Harrison Campbell wins ‘Roy Heverly Award’

State Champion Harrison Campbell to be given the ‘Roy Heverly Award’ for the top Underclassmen in Eastern North Carolina.
Harrison Campbell, the 120 lbs. State Champion from West Brunswick High School, will be presented the 14th Roy Heverly Award as the top underclassman scholastic wrestler in eastern North Carolina. In his final match of the season he defeated
Phil Daub of Enka, who was the state champ at 106 last season, by a strong 8-3 margin. Harrison was the only wrestler in the finals to defeat a defending state champ in 3A. Harrison also led his team to a 5th place finish in the team scoring.
Other notable wins this season include Harrison beat State Champ S. Crumby from SE Guilford at the Tiger Classic. Harrison won his 100th match at the State Duals and he has 108 wins in 3 years. His only loss this year was to State Champion Bradley Wanovich of Jack Britt in overtime at the Jack Britt Tourney. He finished the high school season with a 42 win 1 loss record in his first season in North Carolina after moving from Pennsylvania.
Harrison also recently won the NC USA Freestyle and Greco State Championships and this qualifies him for the North Carolina team to go to the USA Nationals this July in Fargo North Dakota. He defeated Essco Walker in the finals of Freestyle.

The award is named in honor of former state champion Roy Heverly, a 4 time state medallist at West Carteret and three time All-American at The University of North Carolina-Pembroke. The TakeDown Report, an on-line publication promotes amateur wrestling in eastern North Carolina, sponsors these Awards. “These awards recognize the most successful wrestlers in the area each year.” Fleming noted, “It encourages the young men from the teams in the eastern part of the state with another opportunity for others to realize the hard work, determination and discipline it takes to be a top wrestler,” he added.
