Presbyterian College adds Division I wrestling with Mark Cody as head coach

TDR Editor’s Notes; This is tremendously exciting news. Not only will another college is starting a wrestling team but Presbyterian College will also be adding a 2nd team with a Women’s program. Presbyterian will be another Division I program and it’s Women’s team will be the first women’s team at a D-I school and first in the Carolinas. By next year there will be over 40 colleges with Women’s Wrestling teams! The is also a promising trend with Division II Men’s teams as they have more than tripled in the last 17 years. We also will be welcoming a great college coach in Mark Cody.

It’s official: After months of speculation, Presbyterian College will be adding men’s and women’s wrestling, and has accepted an invitation to join the Southern Conference as an associate member beginning in fall 2019, the South Carolina-based NCAA Division I school announced Thursday. What’s more, the school is expected to name former American University and Oklahoma head wrestling coach Mark Cody its director of operations and head men’s wrestling coach, Takedown Wrestling reported Thursday. Presbyterian’s men’s squad will compete in a limited varsity schedule next season, before joining the SoCon as a full member in 2019.
