Krystian Kinsey said he always had the goal of wrestling in college. Problem was he wasn’t sure where it would be. But then last week, Kinsey took visits to the University of Maryland and University of Virginia. He came back and made the decision. Kinsey, who finished in third place in the NCHSAA 3A tournament this past season with a record of 52-4, will be a Virginia Cavalier. He said he made the decision based on a lot of factors. The quality of school, the head coach and the campus swayed him to Charlottesville. “Yeah I really liked the campus and then Coach (Steve) Garland and me hit it off well,” Kinsey said. “I think he’s going to be a good coach and mentor for me while I’m there.” Kinsey expects that in a coach, having wrestled at Havelock under Chase Holleman. Holleman has been known to get his grapplers recruited. With Kinsey, it was all about the timing of the state championships in February and then wrestling at the Virginia Beach nationals in March.
