State Champion Christian Decatur given ‘Roy Heverly Award’ as top Underclassmen in Eastern North Carolina

Christian Decatur, a113 lbs. State Champion from, was presented the 18th Roy Heverly Award as the top underclassman scholastic wrestler in eastern North Carolina during the Rosewood High School Athletic Awards.  He went undefeated in 55 matches to earn his 2nd state championship.  He placed 2nd in his freshmen year

            Decatur has a 173-10 career record during his three years at Rosewood High School. He also won two regional championships and he credited the “coaches, wrestlers and fans here at Rosewood as being the key to his success.”  “I will miss them yet we are looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that next year will provide.”  He and his family will be moving to Guilford County this summer and seek to be closer to his brother as he has enrolled at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

The award is named in honor of former state champion Roy Heverly, a 4 time state medalist at West Carteret and three time All-American at The University of North Carolina-Pembroke.  The TakeDown Report, an on-line publication promotes amateur wrestling in eastern North Carolina, sponsors these Awards.  “These awards recognize the most successful wrestlers in the area each year.” Fleming noted, “It encourages the young men from the teams in the eastern part of the state with another opportunity for others to realize the hard work, determination and discipline it takes to be a top wrestler,” he added.  The TDR also ranks wrestlers in a TDR Top 12 List that is displayed on the TDR Blog page. RIT reaches new heights during historic 2018-19 season. Tigers set school record with 12 dual wins and three All-Americans

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT wrestling team enjoyed perhaps the most successful season in program history during the 2018-19 season. The Tigers won a program-record 12 dual meets and were ranked 19th in the final NWCA National poll. In addition, RIT finished 11th overall at the NCAA Championships and three wrestlers earned All-American honors.

VMI WRESTLING RELEASES 2019-20 SCHEDULE

LEXINGTON, Va. – Second-year head coach Jim Gibson released the 2019-20 VMI wrestling schedule Friday, with some imposing teams on the docket. “Next season’s schedule is going to challenge our wrestlers, as well as, provide them with significant opportunity,” said Gibson. “It is highlighted with competitions against three schools from different Power 5 conferences in Maryland, West Virginia, and UVA.  It will be exciting to see how our guys respond to the opportunity’s put in front of them next season.” The Keydets face the University of Maryland on November 9 at American University, and travel to West Virginia University for competition on December 22. VMI makes the short trek to Charlottesville, Va. to square off with Cavaliers in mid-January.
