SCOTT ANNOUNCES RAMOS PROMOTION, ADDITION OF OLIVER

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina wrestling coach Coleman Scott announced Tuesday the promotion of Tony Ramos to associate head coach and the addition of volunteer assistant Jordan Oliver to the 2019-20 wrestling staff. Ramos, a 2014 NCAA champion and two-time USA world team member has been with the program since 2016 and spent 2018 as the team’s assistant coach. Oliver is a four-time All-American at Oklahoma State, where he won a pair of NCAA championships for the Cowboys in 2011 and 2013. “I’m excited to have Tony continue to play a big role in our program,” Scott said on Ramos’ promotion. “We have a lot of exciting things going on in Chapel Hill and he makes us better with his work with our team both on and off the mat. Tar Heel wrestling as a whole is ready to keep making waves, and Tony is a major contributor of that progress.” Rest of the story at https://goheels.com/news/2019/11/5/wrestling-scott-announces-ramos-promotion-addition-of-oliver.aspx?mc_cid=e40b5635cb&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

Miller Nabs MEC Wrestler Of The Week Honor

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – An unblemished run to championship honors at the Georgia Open on Saturday proved even more fruitful for junior Jonathan Miller on Tuesday when the Wilmington native picked up Mountain East Conference Wrestler of the Week laurels. Miller, NCAA Division II’s eighth-ranked wrestler at 141 pounds, racked up five victories at the Emmanuel-hosted event on Saturday, and capped off the undefeated run with a 9-4 win over teammate Ethan Hnasko in the title bout. He also tallied his first pin of the season along the way – a first-period win by fall over Spartanburg Methodist’s Douglas Burkhead. The E.A. Laney High School product has amassed a 34-15 (.694) record in two-plus seasons in the Black & Gold, including 14 bonus-point victories. He turned in a 23-12 mark last season on the way, as well as an NCAA region title and a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships. Here’s what you should know about Penn State wrestling’s 2019-20 season

TDR Note ; Love to share stories about wrestling history.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The No. 1-ranked Penn State wrestling team is chasing history this season. The Nittany Lions’ winning streak of 59 straight duals is just 10 away from tying Iowa’s modern-era record of 69, strung together from 2008-2011. The Hawkeyes’ win steak was broken with a 15-15 tie against Oklahoma State on Jan. 16, 2011. Iowa went on to win 15 more duals before recording a loss, leaving its unbeaten record at 84. Oklahoma State owns the all-time record of 76 consecutive dual meet wins from 1937-51. The Cowboys also have a pair of 69-match streaks coming from 1921-32 and 1996-99. College wrestling rankings: What’s next for No. 1 Penn State and rest of the Top 5

Penn State has yet to compete as a full team in the 2019-2020 season, yet the Nittany Lions still maintain control of the No. 1 spot in this week’s poll heading into their first dual this weekend against Navy. Eleven underclassmen and redshirt athletes did compete this weekend at the Clarion Open with true freshmen Joe Lee and Carter Starocci winning the 165 and 174-pound weight classes. Both of those weights are currently filled in the lineup by two-time NCAA champion Vincenzo Joseph and 2017 champion Mark Hall, but the Lee and Starocci proved that they are ready to take over those positions next year.  Rest of the story at https://www.ncaa.com/news/wrestling/article/2019-11-05/college-wrestling-rankings-whats-next-no-1-penn-state-and-rest?mc_cid=e40b5635cb&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

Short Time Shots: 11-04-19

Monday, the worst day of the week if you’re a college wrestling fan. I believe each year, there are less than 10 total dual meets across all divisions on Mondays. In a sense, wrestling Mondays give you a case of the Mondays, and I do believe you’d get your ass kicked for saying something like that. Pack up your red staplers and burn down the building, this is Short Time Shots, a look at the day’s wrestling scores and more from around the world of wrestling, I’m Jason Bryant. And while I’m getting you reacquainted with the show or if I’m introducing you do it, I’ll typically do these on days where there’s at least 10 duals around the country. One of the podcast newsletters I subscribe to, James Cridland’s Podnews, does a weekday show and they’re about two minutes long. I did Shots long before that show launched, but in days where there isn’t scores, might as well tell you what’s in the newsletter so I can entice you to sign up for it – it’s free – and pitch a plug for this network, since I’d rather strip out the pre-roll ads here if I can get enough support for the program. That’s a hint. Rest of the story and audio at http://www.mattalkonline.com/podcast/shots/short-time-shots-11-04-19/?mc_cid=60e5e7ba5b&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
