Ohio State’s new COVELLI CENTER ERA BEGINS WITH A BANG
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University wrestling program hosted its first match inside the Covelli Center, putting on a show for the nearly 4,000 fans in attendance by chopping down the Stanford Cardinal in 29-6 final tally. The Buckeyes were victorious in nine of 10 matches, including a pair of sudden victories which sent the crowd into a frenzy. St. Cloud State’s Garrett Vos named NSIC Wrestler of the Week St. Cloud State University sophomore Garrett Vos (Bonifacius, Minn./Waconia H.S.) has been selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 4-10.
In action at 133-pounds, Vos opened his 2019-20 season with a 2-0 record at the 2019 Journeymen Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y. on Nov. 9.  Vos carded an 11-6 win over No. 1 ranked Tyler Warner of Pitt-Johnstown to highlight his day.  He also posted a 5:43 fall against Hayden Brown of Johnson & Wales, and received a forfeit win over American International in the first dual of the day for SCSU. Mount Union’s Jordin James Named OAC Wrestler of Week
AUSTINTOWN — Mount Union junior Jordin James (Bedford) was named Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week. James won the 141 pound title at the Mount Union Invitational in his first action of the season this past Saturday. He won four matches as he started with an 11-2 major decision win over Zach Layne of Bellarmine (Ky.), got a 9-5 win over Brendan Tenney of Lake Erie, had a 16-0 technical fall against Jacob Simpson from West Liberty (W.Va.). In the title match, he edged out Andrew Lieb of Lake Erie, 9-6. Mount Union next wrestles against Muskingum in an OAC dual Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at Timken Gymnasium.

Stevens Institute of Technology’s Kaliner Earns MAC Wrestler of the Week Accolade
ANNVILLE, Pa. (November 11, 2019)  – Junior Brett Kaliner of the eighth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team was named Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It’s the first weekly award for the program since officially joining the MAC last July. “Wrestler of the Week is a great honor, especially on opening weekend,” said head coach Joe Favia. “We certainly want to make a good impression with our move into the MAC. Brett executed his position at a high level this weekend. TOM’s College Wrestler of the Week – November 11th, 2019
This week’s college wrestler of the week is an NCAA qualifier from Utah Valley that entered the weekend ranked 13th in the nation at 285 lbs. Needless to say, after his performance, he will be much higher in the upcoming national rankings. The scene of Tate’s big weekend was the Journeyman/NE Duals and Collegiate Challenge in Troy, New York. The sophomore Orndorff, started his season with a pair of first period falls on Saturday in the Wolverines duals with Sacred Heart and Purdue. Those wins were expected as both of his opponents were unranked sophomores. At the individual portion of the event, on Sunday, Orndorff started his day off with a 16-3 major decision over Oklahoma’s Connor Webb. In his next bout, Tate would face All-American Jordan Wood (Lehigh), the third-ranked 285 lber in the nation. Wood had finished fourth at the NCAA Championships in March. As the Director of Communications and Special Projects, Abbott has overseen media relations for the company since it was based in Oklahoma. In 2020, Abbott will be honored by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and will receive the Order of Merit. Chris Eddins Garners PSAC Wrestler of the Week Honors
Pitt-Johnstown two-time defending National Champion Chris Eddins (149 lbs.) was named the PSAC Wrestler of the Week by the conference office on Monday after posting a 3-0 record at Saturday’s Northeast Duals and defeating the NCAA Division I’s No. 12-ranked wrestler at 149 lbs. at Sunday’s North East Tournament in Troy, NY.
On Saturday, Eddins, the NCAA Division II’s No. 1-ranked wrestler at 149 lbs., opened the North East Duals with a technical fall win at 5:31 over Matthew Beyer in Pitt-Johnstown’s 25-12 win over Ithaca (NY) College, before defeating St. Cloud State (MN) University’s second-ranked James Pleski, 3-2, in the second round. Here’s what we learned from Penn State’s opening dual
The No.1 Nittany Lions started the 2019-2020 season in style, dominating Navy 45-0 with pins from Luke Gardner, Nick Lee, Mark Hall and Anthony Cassar, as well as a tech fall from Vincenzo Joseph and a major decision from Roman Bravo-Young. The win is the first time since Dec. 2, 2018, that Penn State has shut out an opponent, and these ten victories highlighted the strength and depth of head coach Cael Sanderson’s lineup.
