Klucker & Hazel secure bonus points, Bald Eagles drop Navy in thriller
Alex Klucker and Corey Hazel picked up bonus points, and DJ Fehlman sealed a thriller as the Bald Eagles edged out Navy at the Rumble in the Jungle.
RED LION, Pa. – Alex Klucker (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Corey Hazel (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) recorded valuable bonus-points, and DJ Fehlman (Warren, Pa./Warren) sealed the team victory with a dominating win in the night’s final bout, helping the Lock Haven University wrestling team edge out Navy (3-3), 19-15, at the 2019 Rumble in the Jungle in Red Lion, Pennsylvania at Red Lion High School’s Fitzkee Center. Klucker recorded a quick pin at 157 and Hazel recorded a major decision at 184 and the duo’s bonus-point victories certainly played a major role in the outcome for the Bald Eagles (1-1). With the win, Lock Haven moved to 1-1 and bounced back from the dual season-opening loss last week vs. Central Michigan. Returning All-American Kyle Shoop (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) and Brock Port (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) also won tonight for LHU as Lock Haven and Navy each split five wins in the dual. This marked the second Rumble in the Jungle and the Red Lion fans were once again treated to thrilling Division I wrestling action. Short Time Shots: Keiser takes first win and how to interrupt a podcast (12-13-19)
It’s Friday the 13th. It was perhaps the only cool thing about growing up with the name Jason. The whole mythological thing with the Argonauts hadn’t quite resonated just yet – and since I didn’t go to school at the University of Providence or play in Toronto in the CFL, those references were lost on me – just like those two COULD be lost on you. This is Short Time Shots, a mostly daily look at the scores and more from in and around the world of wrestling, I’m Jason Bryant. Before we get to the college action, the Walsh Ironman, one of the best high school wrestling tournaments in the universe is rolling on in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. To keep with the theme, Wyoming Seminary coach Scott Green says Sem has 13 entered, 13 survived on the 13th. Somewhat witty. No truth to the rumor Coach Green was at Wing Warehouse with the seedy underbelly of the wrestling internet. Sometimes you get interrupted from recording a show by three people in said town of Cuyahoga Falls.
Minnesota Beer of the Night: You probably won’t find it by the time you get here for the NCAA Division I Championships, but it’s Surly’s Black Horsemen, which is brewed in collaboration with those fun-loving metal heads at King Diamond. Yes, THAT King Diamond. It’s a Danish style black lager – a style I fell in love with when I was at the Junior World Championships in Trnava, Slovakia in 2018. If you could take what you know now and have a conversation with yourself at 15 What advice would you give yourself?
Listen more. Suffer more. Listen to your parents. Read more. Be more curious and hungry to learn more things.
What do you mean by suffer more?
I mean put myself under more duress, chosen suffering.
What is the biggest break that helped you helped you get to where you are today?
I had so many breaks. I think that the most critical tool for success is people and the people you surround yourself with. I’ve had so many people around me that are so good at what they do. I went to the J Robinson Intensive Camp.
