NC STATE WRESTLING: #4 Wolfpack Comes Home with 21-12 Win at #10 Pitt

Pack gets first top-10 road win since 2016 season
PITTSBURGH, PA. – The fourth ranked NC State wrestling team up its season record to a perfect 12-0 as the Wolfpack scored a 21-12 win at #10 Pitt in ACC action. NC State won six of the 10 bouts, including five straight at one point, and added a pair of bonus point wins while not conceding any.
The win was the first at a top-10 opponent since the Pack win 21-17 at #2 Iowa in 2016. The dual started at 197 pounds, and Pitt opened with back-to-back decisions to jump out to a 6-0 team lead.
R-Fr. Jakob Camacho got the Pack’s first win, for bonus points at 125 pounds. Camacho scored a takedown in the third and worked for a four-point near fall and finished with an 11-3 major decision. Pitt claimed another decision at 133 pounds, as #6 Micky Phillippi scored a 4-0 win over Jarrett Trombley.
#11 R-Jr. Tariq Wilson used a two-point near fall and a ride out in the third period to score a 5-2 win at 141 pounds. At the intermission, Pitt held a 9-7 lead.
The Pack took its first lead of the night after R-So. A.J. Leitten scored a 7-0 decision at 149 pounds. After a scoreless first, Leitten got a four-point near fall and a ride out in the second.
More bonus points at 157 pounds, and another bonus point win for #2 Hayden Hidlay. His four-point near fall in the third period ended it early, as he scored a 16-1 technical fall over Taleb Rahmani for five team points, a 15-9 team lead.
#13 R-Jr. Thomas Bullard made it four straight Pack wins, as he notched his fourth top-12 win of the season and got a 3-1 decision over #12 Jake Wentzel. The lone takedown of the bout came in the second period. Pitt got the upset at 174 pounds, as Gregg Harvey got a takedown in the final 10 seconds to down #16 Daniel Bullard 10-8.
#3 R-Fr. Trent Hidlay closed the dual with his fourth top-10 win of the season, as he downed #7 Nino Bonaccorsi 6-3. Hidlay scored a pair of first period takedowns, and racked up 2:25 of ride time in the win.

Mount Union’s Jordin James chosen Greater Cleveland top male college athlete
Purple Raider junior won a national title in 2019. Mount Union junior wrestler Jordin James received the Greater Cleveland Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year Award at the 20th annual Greater Cleveland Sports Awards, Wednesday, at the Renaissance Hotel Downtown. James went 34-1 on the mat a year ago in becoming just the third Mount Union wrestler ever to win an NCAA individual national title. He wrestled at 133 pounds with 15 technical falls, six major decisions and four pins while winning tournament titles at Messiah (Pa.), Wheaton (Ill.) and the NCAA Central Regional. He is an exercise science major from Bedford. He wrestled his freshman year at Iowa Lakes Community College. His brother Jairod also wrestled at Mount Union and he won the 2018 national title at 174 pounds. OHIO STATE SCORES 28 UNANSWERED IN DOWNING OF ILLINOIS
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4 Ohio State University wrestling team (7-1, 3-0 B1G) erased an early deficit and ultimately tore through Illinois (4-3, 1-2 B1G), 28-6. Pennsylvania Univ. Beats Binghamton and Long Island in Home Opener
PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team returned to The Palestra for the first time in 2020 and graced The Cathedral with a pair of dominating EIWA victories.
In the season’s home opener, Penn won 17 of the doubleheader’s 20 duals with nine of those duals adding bonus points. Mich. state Spartan Secures 36-0 Shutout Victory over Maryland
EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State wrestling used three bonus point wins to secure a 36-0 shutout victory over Maryland on Sunday afternoon inside Jenison Field House on Alumni Day. The shutout marks the first for the Spartans over a Big Ten opponent in 36 years, last coming against Illinois on Jan. 20, 1984. (44-0).

Penn State Rolls Over Rutgers 38-6 in Sold Out Rec Hall

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Nittany Lions (6-1, 3-0 B1G), ranked No. 2 in the latest InterMat Tournament Power Index, rolled over visiting Rutgers (7-3, 2-2) in sold out Rec Hall.  Head coach Cael Sanderson‘s squad used three pins to post a lopsided 38-6 victory over the Scarlet Knights in an ESPN2 national telecast.
Penn State won eight of ten bouts and picked up 14 bonus points in the victory. Augustana Vikings Dominate MSU Moorhead For Fifth-Straight Victory
MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Augustana wrestling team dominated the MSU Moorhead Dragons 33-6 Sunday afternoon en route to its fifth-consecutive dual victory. The No. 16 Lindenwood wrestling team (5-2, 2-0 GLVC) powered its way past UIndy (5-5, 0-1 GLVC) on Sunday, posting a 35-6 win in Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.

#6 Johnson & Wales Captures 4th-Straight NEWA Duals Title

PROVIDENCE, RI – From the first match to the last, the Johnson & Wales University wrestling team was on a mission Sunday at the NEWA Dual Championships. The sixth-ranked Wildcats rolled to their fourth-straight championship at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

Johnson & Wales is the first program in New England to win four-straight NEWA titles. Overall, JWU has won eight NEWA Championships.  The Wildcats blanked Plymouth State, 54-0, to start the day then beat WPI, 44-3. Johnson & Wales stopped Roger Williams, 36-8, before taking down #10 Coast Guard, 30-8, in the finals.

Bucknell Drops Brown, 31-3

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell wrestling team won nine of 10 bouts to drop Brown, 31-3, on Sunday afternoon at Davis Gym.
The Bison (4-3, 3-1 EIWA) netted bonus points in two of their individual wins, helping them score their largest margin of victory over the Bears (0-3, 0-2 EIWA) in program history. They previously downed Brown, 31-7, on Feb. 19, 2011 in Providence, R.I. Zach Hartman, who is ranked as high as 16th nationally at 165 pounds, pinned his opponent in the first period for the second-straight dual. Mercyhurst Posts Victory Over Seton Hill
