American University Defeats Duke and Bloomsburg, Falls to Terps at Maryland Quad Meet
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Two wins in three duals was a strong start to the season for American University wrestling, particularly after a young team earned just one dual win all of last season. The Eagles got some impressive performances out of newcomers and veterans in beating both Duke (21-15) and Bloomsburg (29-10) before falling to host Maryland (10-29) in a four-team quad meet at the XFinity Center Pavilion.
Notable
- Freshman Raymond Lopez (125), sophomore Jack Maida (133) and graduate student Colin Shannon (184) all posted two wins apiece for American.
- The Eagles scored a total of three pins, with two of those coming from freshmen—Lopez and Caleb Campos (165). Lopez pinned Duke’s Logan Agin in 2:16, while Campos pinned Bloomsburg’s Trenton Harder in 3:54.
- In his first bout at heavyweight, junior Will Jarrell also had a pin against Bloomsburg.
