Wolves Conquer the Cobras on the Road
Wrestling puts on dominating display as all weight classes claim victory
HARTSVILLE, S.C. — Coming off of the last dual victory against King in which the Wolves won 36-14, Wrestling took the under two hour trip to Hartsville to take on the Cobras from Coker. Newberry would be looking to build off their victory, along with the 10th place finish at NWCA National Duals.
The dual would start off at 141 lbs, but Josh Blatt (Albemarle, N.C.) would start things off right by securing a fall over Zaid Miller at 3:23. 149 lbs Devan Moore (Baxley, Ga.) would keep it up with a 16-0 tech fall over Dylan Billingsley at 3:10, along with 157 lbs Nolan Wheeler (Dahlonega, Ga.), who would win a 6-3 decision over Noah Korenoski.
Keeping up the streak, 165 lbs P.J. No. 5 Lander Wrestling takes down Limestone 28-17 on the road
GAFFNEY, S.C. – The No. 5 Lander wrestling team took care of business as it downed the Limestone Saints 28-17 Friday evening on the road.
Lander improves to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in the SACC while Limestone falls to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the SACC.
The match started with a bang as Anthony Yacovetti got things going with a late first-period pin to put the Bearcats up 6-0 and earn his fifth pin of the season. Juan Edmond-Holmes would be next to score for the Bearcats as he earned a 7-3 win by decision. Limestone would also be docked a point for unsportsmanlike conduct at 285.
Moving to 125, James Joplin kept the momentum going with a 15-3 major decision before Kaiden Fisher earned his third pin of the season at 133 to give Lander a 19-(-1) edge.
Limestone would finally get on the board as the Saints took wins at 141 and 149 from forfeits while winning by decision at 157 to make it a 19-14 contest.
Lander would come screaming back with a David Hunsberger pin in the third period at 165 to increase Lander’s lead to 25-14.
