Northwestern racks up eight wins in first victory over Scarlet Knights in program history
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 29, 2023) – Lucas Davison and Yahya Thomas picked up bonus point victories as No. 14 Northwestern wrestling (5-2, 4-2 B1G) completed a weekend sweep in a 28-6 rout of Rutgers (9-5, 1-4 B1G) this afternoon at Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, N.J.
The ‘Cats picked up wins in eight of the day’s 10 bouts en route to the program’s first dual meet win over the Scarlet Knights.
Davison jumped all over Rutgers’ Kyle Epperly at heavyweight, taking a 2-0 first-period lead. Following a four-point near fall in the opening minute of the second period, the Chesterton, Ind. product locked up Epperly for the fall at 3:44 to secure a fourth straight win. Trio of Upset Wins Fuel Gophers’ 24-9 Rout of Illinois
MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 11 University of Minnesota wrestling program continued their unbeaten home streak on Saturday afternoon, as they rolled to a 24-9 victory over Illinois.
Only favored in four of the bouts heading into the dual, Minnesota rolled to three upsets throughout the dual, including two over top-10 opponents, and ended up with seven wins out of the dual’s ten matches.

‘Cats extend home win streak to six
EVANSTON, Ill. (January 27, 2023) – For the second time in as many weeks, No. 14 Northwestern (4-2, 3-2 B1G) left it until the final bout of the night, with Lucas Davison’s decision victory providing the winning margin for the ‘Cats in an 18-17 triumph over No. 13 Wisconsin (7-6, 1-5 B1G) this evening inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Tonight’s result sees the Wildcats push their win streak in home dual matches to six, a run that dates back to a 29-7 win against Maryland back on February 6, 2022.
Davison, who is ranked fourth by FloWrestling at 285 pounds and entered the night with a record of 3-1 in Big Ten duals this season, went into his matchup with No. 10 Trent Hillger knowing that a victory would propel the ‘Cats to a second win in as many duals. He jumped in front, 2-0, with a minute remaining in the first period, securing a takedown following a wild scramble on the edge of the mat. Huskers Secure Manning’s 300th Career Victory
Lincoln, Neb. – Behind seven wins and three bonus point victories, the Nebraska wrestling team defeated Wisconsin, 24-11, in front of 2,209 fans on Sunday afternoon at the Devaney Center.
This dual win marked Coach Manning’s 300th career win. Manning now holds a career record of 300-129-5.
Competition started with a top-ten matchup at 125 with No. 5 Liam Cronin defeating No. 8 Eric Barnett in a 7-3 decision. In the first period, Cronin recorded a big takedown and Barnett answered with an escape. With just a Barnett escape in the second period, the pair entered the final two minutes with Cronin holding the 3-1 advantage. Cronin then took control in the final period with a pair of escapes to secure the win.
At 133, No. 32 Kyle Burwick fell to Wisconsin’s No. 29 Taylor LaMont in a close 2-0 decision.
No. 6 Brock Hardy helped Nebraska pull ahead, 6-3 overall, with a victory over No. 24 Joseph Zargo. Hardy scored an escape and a takedown in the first two periods to take the 3-0 lead. In the final period, Hardy tallied another takedown, while Zargo scored his first points with a reversal. An escape and the riding time point for Hardy locked in the 7-2 decision.
