Montevallo Defeats Midway 27-16 in Inaugural Home Wrestling Match
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo Wrestling team defeated Midway University, 27-16, in the program’s inaugural home match.
In an electric environment of nearly 1,900 wrestling fans, the Falcons showed out in what was a historic moment in Montevallo’s history. Colt Brown started the match off with electricity for the Falcons as he defeated Midway’s Andrew Vogler by tech fall, 19-3 in 5:45 for the program’s first win inside Trustmark Arena. With a forfeit in the 133 matchup, the Falcons took an early 11-0 lead over the visiting Eagles. Midway rattled off three consecutive wins before Carson Freeman won by major decision over Jabril Williams in the 165 contest, 11-2.
In the 174, Derek Hussey pulled off a tightly contested win by decision, 5-3.
Jeffery Tubbs got the Falcon faithful going in the 184 bout with a pin in 1:26 over Michael Colligan.
Mark Pennison capped off the quartet of consecutive Falcon victories with a hard-fought win over David Emfinger, 15-13.

#1 Wrestling Starts and Finishes Strong to Take Down UNC Pembroke
PEMBROKE, N.C. – The top-ranked Lander Wrestling team got three gritty decisions to start the match against UNC Pembroke and closed with three straight bonus point victories in the last three bouts to seal a 31-9 victory over the Braves in front of a rowdy crowd at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court on Thursday evening. The win is the Bearcats’ second straight in the series and also the second straight time they held the Braves under ten points as they won last year’s matchup 30-7. Lander improves to 2-0 overall and in Conference Carolin as action while Pembroke drops to 1-1 overall and in conference.
James Joplin, ranked second in the NWCA poll, would set the tone early on as he would get a second period reversal and a third period take down to grit out a 6-4 decision over #11 Logan Seliga to give Lander the 3-0 lead.
