Raiders come back to beat Humboldt
ASHLAND – Southern Oregon got all it could handle from Cal Poly Humboldt in the teams’ first matchup in 37 years, rallying for a 23-19 dual win on Friday night at Riehm Arena.
With a few regulars out of the lineup, the No. 9-ranked Raiders trailed 16-7 entering the 174-pound match, where Noah Talavera put them on the comeback trail with a second-round technical fall over Diego Robles.
A forfeit at 184 put SOU up 18-16, and No. 9-ranked Asher Ruchti clinched the victory at 197 by shutting out Abdurraham “Manman” Garner in a 16-0 tech.
The Raiders’ other triumphs came from No. 12 Vonn Fenn (125) by decision and No. 3 Aaron Gandara (157) by major decision. Fenn erased a 3-0 deficit with eight points in the third period of a 9-3 win and Gandara didn’t surrender a point.
They improved to 8-0 entering two more duals Saturday in McMinnville, where they’ll face Pacific at 3:30 p.m. and Linfield at 5 p.m.
Humboldt – in its first season back after resurrecting its program – took advantage of some SOU absences but also got a major upset from Jayson Victoria, who outlasted No. 2 Evan Potter overtime. Potter was wrestling up a weight class in his first loss of the season. … more at … https://souraiders.com/news/2024/12/6/mens-wrestling-raiders-come-back-to-beat-humboldt.aspx
