Nebraska Cornhuskers TOP SDSU, 21-17
Lincoln – No. 8 Nebraska wrestling used a pin and five wins by decision to defeat No. 14 South Dakota State, 21-17, at the Devaney Center in front of 2,401 fans on Saturday night.
In the first bout of the night, No. 8 Caleb Smith used a pair of reversals and two backpoints to secure a win at 125 over No. 18 Tanner Jordan. South Dakota State’s Jordan struck first with a takedown in the first period, but Smith answered with six straight points en route to the 6-4 victory.
At 133, Kyle Burwick fell to No. 13 Derrick Cardinal in a 6-1 decision. Cardinal managed a takedown in the first period and a reversal in the second. In the third, Burwick scored a point off an escape, but Cardinal took the riding time point to put the Jackrabbits on the board.
No. 6 Brock Hardy (141) sparked the Huskers, defeating Caleb Gross with a dominant first-period pin in 2:06, and NU took the 9-3 overall lead with seven matches to go.

No. 3 Missouri Wrestling Grounds Air Force, 38-3
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 3-ranked University of Missouri wrestling team overwhelmed Air Force, 38-3, on Sunday, Dec. 17, in front of 2,439 fans at Hearnes Center. The Tigers improved to 4-0 (3-0, Big 12), while the Falcons fell to 2-2 (0-2, Big 12).
Mizzou used eight bonus-point victories to outlast Air Force, starting off with a (10) Noah Surtin technical fall at 125, his sixth bonus-point win of the year. At 133, Kade Moore stepped in to claim his first bonus-point victory in a dual this season, taking down Gavin Caprella, 12-3. After (20) Josh Edmond‘s decision at 141 and (22) Logon Gioffre‘s major at 149, the Tigers had a commanding 16-0 lead. Then, (9) Brock Mauller gave the Tigers their second tech fall of the afternoon at 157, pushing MU’s lead to 21-0 heading to the break.
A high-scoring affair ensued at 165, as (1) Keegan O’Toole earned a major decision, 24-12. The bonus-point victory was his eighth of the year in eight matches. At 174, (9) Peyton Mocco gave Missouri its third tech fall of the afternoon, stretching the Tiger lead to 30-0. Gomez Joins Wolverine Program as Grad Transfer for 2023-24

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan wrestling head coach Sean Bormet announced Thursday (Dec. 14) the addition of graduate transfer Austin Gomez to the Wolverine program. Gomez, an NCAA All-American at Wisconsin, is immediately eligible and has one year remaining.
“Austin is one of the most electrifying wrestlers in the country,” said Bormet. “He is a special talent, has an exceptional work ethic and a competitive fire, and he brings a lot of excitement to the mat. I’ve known Austin since he was a young kid in my Overtime programs, and obviously Kevin [Jackson] has a great relationship with him as well, so we really know we’re getting a high-character individual and a great competitor. We are thrilled to welcome him to our team and fired up to coach him.”

Bastida Racking Up Takedowns, Surging In Rankings For Iowa State Wrestling
Iowa State’s Yonger Bastida is settling in at heavyweight, where he’s ranked third nationally and has scored 44 takedowns and allowed just one this season.
Yonger Bastida saw an opening and sprang for a shot. It didn’t land in his first bout of the season a month and a half ago against Daniel Bucknavich of Cleveland State a month and a half ago. Instead, Bastida — a two-time NCAA qualifier and 2022 all-American for Iowa State — got taken down himself.
It’s an error in judgment and execution that sticks with the third-ranked heavyweight Cyclone wrestler, but he’s been stellar on the mat ever since. Ohio State Wrestling Seeking Wisdom From Loss To Pitt
After an upset loss at home against Pittsburgh, Ohio State wrestling is analyzing what went wrong and trying to learn from it
The sting of Ohio State’s upset home loss to Pittsburgh didn’t sour Tom Ryan’s perspective.  Ryan spoke of the defeat while delineating the difference between knowledge and wisdom. “The biggest takeaway from the loss is the difference between those two,” he said. “We gain knowledge as a result of anything we go through. Wisdom is the correct application of knowledge — applying what we learned in the future so we don’t do it again.

Oklahoma State Wrestling’s Depth, Freshmen Tested This Season
Oklahoma State wrestling coach John Smith has been impressed with what he’s seen from his freshman class this season
In Stillwater, things are on the up and up. The #9 Oklahoma State Cowboys have earned their first Top 10 ranking of the season. 
Considering the adversity the team has faced this early in the year, it has been a solid job by coach John Smith and company to keep things rolling. Smith has enjoyed seeing the progression of his young wrestlers, and he gives a brief update on injuries.  
It is no secret Oklahoma State has already been riddled with injuries just two short months into this season. Most notably, #3 Daton Fix at 133 pounds, but also #13 197-pounder Luke Surber. Seventh-ranked Tagen Jamison, Oklahoma State’s breakout freshman at 141 pounds, suffered an apparent right arm injury Sunday against  Oklahoma. Little Rock Wrestling Takes Out Queens and Chattanooga at Tri-Dual

Commanding performances in December set a program-high dual win streak
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Eight technical falls and six pins helped the Little Rock wrestling team come home with not one but two wins on the road today, moving to 5-1 on the season and setting a program record four-match win streak. The Trojans shut out Queens 55-0 before turning right around and besting Chattanooga 30-11 to close out the day, winning 17 of the 20 total bouts.
“It’s awesome, and it’s part of the process of getting to the next level,” said head coach Neil Erisman of the recent match success. “We’re not satisfied, but we’re doing good things. While today was more of a struggle than I wanted it to be, it was good for our guys to push through some hard moments. They found a way to get it done, and that’s important.”

How They Got It Done
Every single Trojan earned wins by technical fall or fall in the match against Queens: an even 5 and 5 split. In the Chattanooga dual, Jeremiah Reno, Triston Wills and Stephen Little duplicated their results, taking home a pair of technical falls throughout the day. Meanwhile, Josiah Hill took home two pins, scoring a team-high 12 team points for Little Rock. His first win by fall was the quickest of his career, at just 23 seconds. Despite a few changes in the lineup from dual to dual, Brennan Van Hoecke and Tyler Brennan also went 2-0 on the day, moving the latter up to double digit wins this season – a 10-1 record so far. In addition, Matty Bianchi, Joseph Bianchi and Chase Tebbets were undefeated today, going 1-0 as both the older Bianchi and Tebbets made their first dual start this year. 

New, Competitive Mindset

Pins Propel Appalachian State To Home Win Over No. 21 UNC

BOONE, N.C. — Once wrestling resumed, App State delivered a 12-point flurry — and the first of back-to-back pins happened in a crowd-rousing hurry. Participating in only their second dual of the season with a young, inexperienced team, the Mountaineers beat a ranked North Carolina squad for the second straight season by winning 24-14 against the No. 21 Tar Heels in Varsity Gym.
App State handed UNC a narrow loss last year in Chapel Hill, and a large home crowd in the High Country was looking for a reason to explode on a sleepy, rainy Sunday afternoon. The Mountaineers claimed three of the first five matches to take a 9-6 lead into the halfway-point intermission, but coming out of the break, Will Miller produced a six-point pin just 43 seconds into his 165-pound match and Luke Uliano followed with another six-point pin late in the second period of his 174-pound match.
Just like that, App State (1-1) had a 21-6 lead with three matches remaining, including two in a row with top-20 wrestlers from North Carolina (6-3) taking the mat.
The Mountaineers held a seven-point advantage going into the final match, and heavyweight Jacob Sartorio used a pair of third-period takedowns to prevail 7-3. Ethan Oakley, Ike Byers and Tommy Askey were responsible for the pre-intermission victories, as Byers won a 2-1 decision at 141 pounds while making his first dual start in his fifth year with the program.
App State, which opened its 2023-24 dual schedule with a loss to No. 2 NC State, picked up its 11th victory against a Power Five opponent since JohnMark Bentley became the Mountaineers’ head coach.
North Carolina’s lineup often has five ranked wrestlers, although it was missing returning All-American Lachlan McNeil, who was in Alberta, Canada, over the weekend winning the Canadian Olympic Trials. Even if the Tar Heels could have gotten the maximum of six points from his normal spot in the lineup, it would have created only a nine-point swing in App State’s 10-point victory.
Byers followed Oakley’s 7-2 win against Jace Palmer with a 2-1 decision decided by a tiebreaking point for stalling against Derek Guanajuato with 1:07 remaining. Byers increased his season total to 12 victories and was promoted to a captain’s role as Bentley addressed the team in the locker room following the dual.
Jayden Scott won 4-3 against App State’s Cody Bond at 149 in the only ranked showdown, giving UNC its second win in addition to 22nd-ranked Spencer Moore’s 8-6 decision against redshirt freshman Noah Luna, and the Mountaineers totaled 15 points over the next three matches.
Askey claimed a 7-3 decision against Danny Nini before Miller and Uliano opened the second half of the dual with momentous outcomes. Miller’s victory followed his clutch win against a returning All-American in the 2022 victory at UNC, and Uliano held a 1-0 lead in the final minute of the second period before gaining control with a near fall and subsequent pin.

No. 21 UNC Wrestling Sweeps Dual With Morgan State

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The 21st-ranked North Carolina wrestling team completed the clean sweep against Morgan State, 36-0, Saturday night at Carmichael Arena. 
The Tar Heels collected one fall, one technical fall, two major decisions and six decisions in the matchups with the Bears. 
Carolina began the dual with back-to-back decisions courtesy of Marco Tocci (125) and Jace Palmer (133), followed by a technical fall from Derek Guanajuato (141). The Tar Heels then rattled off four-straight decisions, with Jayden Scott (149), Danny Nini (157), Isaias Estrada (165) and Marcus Murabito (174) coming out on top. 
The ranked duo of Gavin Kane (184) and Max Shaw (197) collected major decisions, with Cade Lautt (285) rounding out the night with a second period pin. 
The Tar Heels return to the mat tomorrow afternoon, traveling to in-state foe Appalachian State at 3 PM.

First-ever girls varsity wrestling teams compete in the Hudson Valley

The inaugural season of girls varsity wrestling in New York state is in full swing. In the Hudson Valley, several schools have their first-ever teams, including Minisink, Middletown, Port Jervis and Saugerties. 
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association sanctioned the new girls’ teams last year.
Minisink had their first set of matches against Port Jervis on Friday. Their coach, Dan Gallo, says wrestlers will learn accountability and selflessness through the sport and that they’re excited to welcome their newest athletes.
“I hope the girls will learn several things as a result of being on the first-ever girls’ team here at Minisink. We have talented and experienced wrestlers on our team. We also have first-time wrestlers, with tremendous potential, who are a great fit for the sport and our program. We aspire to be the premier program in New York State. First official season for girls wrestling in Pennsylvania getting started
The date May 17, 2023, will not soon be forgotten by those who follow and have an affinity for girls wrestling locally and throughout Pennsylvania.
That day, the PIAA officially sanctioned the sport, making good on its promise that if schools in the state came through and 100 or more sponsored girls wrestling, it would do the same. Pennsylvania became the 38th state to sanction girls wrestling, and now more than 30 teams in the WPIAL, including four in the Alle-Kiski Valley, are putting the finishing touches on preparations to compete, in head-to-head dual meets and also tournaments. “My friend has been coaching a boys team in New Jersey for a while, and he helped start a girls team about four or five years ago,” said Plum girls wresting coach Dave Miller, who guides a group of 10 Mustangs wrestlers, a mix of veteran competitors and others new to the sport, into Saturday’s Butler Invitational, the first official event on the area schedule this season.
“Pennsylvania didn’t have it yet. But there’s been such a groundswell of interest and support the past couple of years. It’s just taken off. Last year, they doubled the number of schools from the year before. It’s growing like wild fire.” Plum, Kiski Area and Fox Chapel will be among more than a dozen teams joining a number of individuals from other schools who don’t sponsor girls wrestling hoping for positive results at Butler. Queens of the mat: Girls wrestling is off and running in 1st season as a PIAA-sponsored sport
Ana Malovich has concluded one wrestling career and begun another in her senior year at Butler High School. Thanks to the PIAA for sponsoring girls wrestling.
Malovich wrestled for Butler’s boys team the past three years and turned in a record-setting 51-34 career mark. She ended her career with the boys team as the only girl in WPIAL history to have 45 or more wins. Now, Malovich and other girls hope to be queens of the mat.
The PIAA has officially recognized girls wrestling for the first time for the 2023-24 season. Malovich could have remained with the boys team or competed on the Golden Tornado’s girls team. ”This choice was easy,” Malovich said. “I want to wrestle with the girls team in my senior year. I will miss being in that environment. I was fortunate to be on the boys team, but I wouldn’t trade anything for this experience of wrestling with the girls.” 
Malovich made her debut for the girls team over the weekend and won a title at the Walsh Women’s Ironman tournament, which was hosted by Walsh Jesuit High School (Ohio). It’s a tournament for top wrestlers. Malovich was seeded No. 3 in the 16-girl bracket at 115 pounds. A pair of pins got her to the semifinals, where she defeated No. 2 seed Harlee Hiller of Loyola Academy in the semifinals.

UNC-Pembroke Falls Twice At Reinhardt Tri-Meet

WALESKA, GA. – The UNC Pembroke wrestling team suffered a narrow defeat to home-standing and #7 NAIA-ranked Reinhardt, and then fell to #2 NAIA-ranked Life in dual action Wednesday night. 
The Braves will hit the mat again this weekend, December 16 and 17, as they trek to Indianapolis, Ind. for the 44th Annual Midwest Classic. Wrestling action will run all day at Nicoson Hall. WALESKA, Ga. — The Life University men’s wrestling team delivered two impressive ranked wins Wednesday night, first taking down the talented NCAA DII UNC Pembroke 41-7 before successfully defeating AAC rival Reinhardt 31-7.
To begin the day, the Running Eagles lost their opening bout against #12 UNC Pembroke. At 133 lbs, Kaden Ramos got things going for the #2 team in the nation turning a takedown into a pin, two minutes into the opening round. At 141 lbs, Jordan Mitchell doubled the lead for Life U, earning a pin in the 3rd round after controlling the bout with a handful of takedowns and a near fall. College Dual Meet Results in D-III and D-II

John Carroll Men’s Wrestling Secures Two Wins at Home Tri-Meet
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Making the team’s home debut for the season, John Carroll Men’s Wrestling posted a pair of wins at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.  The Blue Streaks tallied a 28-12 victory over Otterbein University and then a 46-6 conquest of Hiram College. Otterbein beat Hiram in the other dual, 47-6. The wins marked John Carroll’s first two dual wins of the campaign.

Otterbein looked good in the early going, as the Cardinals tallied a win at 125 via forfeit and a decision win at 141, with a Ty Daugherty tech fall victory at 133.
A pair of hard-earned victories by decision turned the tides for John Carroll. Kyle Bizjak fended off Nathan Leko at 149 with a narrow 4-2 victory. Patrick McGraw fought off a strong challenge from Austin Amens at 157. The Saint Ignatius grad got out to a hot start, but allowed a 3-point takedown in the second period. Amens narrowed the deficit further to just one point, but McGraw tallied a takedown to ensure the victory. Trinity Wrestling Collects First Win Over Williams In 20 Seasons
HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Wrestling squad opened their home schedule with a 25-23 victory over visiting Williams College in Oosting Gymnasium Friday night. This is the Bantams first victory over the Ephs in 20 seasons. Prior to the match, the Bantams honored first captain Mike O’Hare and first All-American Joe Adam.
The Bantams collected forfeit victories of first year Alexander Schaeublin and sophomore Matthew Carrozza. At 141 pounds, sophomore Adam Schaeublin rolled to a major decision, 17-8, and then junior Chris Perry registered a 10-0 major decision in the 149-pound match.
At 157-pounds, sophomore Chase Ledbury lost by fall, while first year Tucker Vician fell by technical fall, 16-0, in the 165-pound bout. Senior Adam Frost returned the Bantams to win column with a 15-0 technical fall victory at 174-pounds, and then junior Marco Bragado lost by decision, 9-4, in the 184-pound match. No. 2 Hilltoppers Rally in Upper Weights to Defeat (RV) Findlay
Findlay, Ohio – Following an upset at 133 pounds and three bonus point wins for Findlay, the No. 2 West Liberty University wrestling team found themselves trailing 16-3 after the first five matches of the day. The Hilltoppers continued to battle though, as the upper weights rallied off four wins in the final five bouts, including three straight to end the dual to secure a 22-19 victory over the Oilers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Findlay took control of the dual early with a 15-6 win by major decision as No. 9 Graham Shore of the Oilers defeated Alexander Crane. Shore opened the match with a takedown that momentarily put Crane on his back and added two near fall points. Starting the second period down 5-0, Crane escaped the initial restart for his first point of the 125 pound bout. Shore added a pair of takedowns in the second to go up 11-2 entering the third period. After Shore cut Crane loose following a takedown on the edge of the mat 30 seconds into the final period as he began to look for the tech fall, however Crane came out on top in a scramble with 15 seconds remaining for his first takedown of the match. Bronchos Overwhelm Newman In 300th HFH Dual
Central Oklahoma Crushes Newman 40-5 In MIAA Opener
EDMOND – Two-time national champion Dalton Abney shined in his season debut to spearhead Central Oklahoma’s technical fall avalanche that buried Newman 40-5 Sunday afternoon in the 300th dual at Hamilton Field House.
Abney needed just 1:38 to rack up a 19-4 technical fall at 197 pounds and the No. 4-ranked Bronchos also got five-point routs from 157 Gabe Johnson, 174 Jaxon Randall and Hvy Braden Morgan in their 18th straight home victory.
UCO added major decisions from 141 Dylan Lucas and 149 Antonio George, while 125 Guy Clevenger and 133 Peter Rolle pulled out tough wins. Anthony DesVigne added a forfeit as the Bronchos improved to 2-0 in winning their 19th consecutive Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association match. “It was great to finally be home and we had a good day,” said eighth-year head coach Todd Steidley, who improved to 88-12 with the Bronchos. “I thought our guys wrestled hard. We pulled out a couple of gritty wins early and did a lot of good things, but we still have a lot of work to do.”
UCO improved to 234-63-3 at Hamilton Field House in its home debut.
Clevenger got the Bronchos started in the opening match, coming out on top in a wild scramble for a takedown with 1:15 left to break a 7-7 tie before hanging on for a 10-8 win.
Rolle prevailed 10-6 at 133 after overcoming a 6-1 first-period deficit. Chadron State Women’s Wrestling goes 2-0
CHADRON, Neb. — The Chadron State College women’s wrestling team defeated Minot State and Adams State Sunday in the Chicoine Center, 29-19 and 41-8, respectively.  
Brianna Vollendroff, Ana Rojas Zamora, Annika Lee, and Emma Meadows all went 2-0. Mana Chanthasone at 101 pounds and Kamila Montenegro at 190 also were each 2-0 but due to forfeits by their opponents.
Vollendroff, a sophomore from Oroville, California, defeated her opponent from Minot State with a 13-2 tech fall. She won her second match of the day against Adams State by way of fall in 4:37 at 109 pounds. Her tech fall occurred only 2:28 into the match.
At 123 pounds, Rojas Zamora’s victories came by way of two pins. The sophomore from Sweeny, Texas pinned her opponent from Minot State in 2:41 and was victorious against Adams State in 3:28.
Shania Wear went 1-1 for the Eagles at 130 pounds. Wear, a sophomore from Gothenburg, Nebraska used two four-point throws on her way to earning a 16-6 tech fall against the Grizzlies.
Lee, a freshman from Olympia, Washington won with two first period tech falls. Against Minot State, she won the 136-pound match 11-0 in 2:52 and was victorious with a 10-0 tech fall in 2:48 against Adams State.

Blue Hose Boosts Win Streak to Four in Ultra-Quick Shutout over Huntingdon
CLINTON, S.C. – The 13th-ranked Presbyterian College women’s wrestling team made the most of Saturday’s site change for a head-to-head with Huntingdon College, listing the first true shutout in program history at Templeton Gym in a 47-0 clobbering.
Winners of four in a row – with the last three decided by an average margin of 38 points – the Blue Hose and head coach Brian Vutianitis have wowed spectators with lightning-quick pins and technical falls, something that the Hawks fell victim to in every encounter over the weekend.
Across the midway portion of the bout, PC published four straight pins (none of them lasting longer than 70 seconds) while gaining three other TF’s in as decisive of a victory as one could’ve assembled.

Eischens Joins North Carolina Wrestling Program

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina wrestling head coach Rob Koll has announced the addition of Tyler Eischens to the program’s roster.
Eischens, a former wrestler under Koll at Stanford, joins the Tar Heels as a projected 174-pounder.
The Anoka, Minn. native arrives at Carolina as a three-time NCAA qualifier (2020, 2022, 2023). The 2022 Pac-12 Champion, Eischens boasts a career record of 69-34, highlighted by a career best 22 victories a season ago.
In freestyle competition, Eischens was a member of the United States’ U23 Greco-Roman World Team in 2023, as well as winning the 2019 US Open Junior Greco-Roman 72 KG championship.

No. 19 Pitt Earns Signature Win at No. 5 Ohio State, 21-13
COLUMBUS—The Pitt wrestling team picked up a stunning early season upset at No. 5 Ohio State on Sunday afternoon at the Covelli Center in Columbus, winning the ACC-Big Ten dual, 21-13.
The No. 19 Panthers (6-1) triumphed in six bouts against the Buckeyes (4-1) to earn a decisive dual win in what was a signature victory for seventh-year head coach Keith Gavin and his squad. “We battled really hard,” Gavin said. “We have a tough group, even our young guys. They are really fun to coach and I’m so proud of the team. Ohio State is an elite team; any time you can get a dual win over a team like that, it means your program is in a good place and you are doing the right things. Starting at 125 pounds, Colton Camacho earned the first of what would prove to be three crucial upsets by the Panthers, convincingly defeating No. 22 Brendan McCrone by 14-9 decision. Nittany Lion Wrestlers Roll Over Hofstra 43-10 in Sold Out Rec Hall
Penn State picks up four pins in non-conference victory
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team (2-0, 0-0 B1G) rolled to a 43-10 win over visiting Hofstra (0-2) on Sunday in Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions picked up four pins in the lopsided non-conference win. Four Nittany Lions made their dual meet debuts in front of another Rec Hall sellout crowd for head coach Cael Sanderson and the Nittany Lions, and the Penn State starting line-up featured four freshmen.
The dual began at 125 where Braeden Davis made his Penn State dual debut. Davis rolled to an 11-2 major over Hofstra’s Dylan Acevedo-Switzer to give Penn State an early 4-0 lead. Sophomore Aaron Nagao, ranked No. 4 at 133, dominated Ryan Arbeit, notching a 21-6 technical fall at 4:20. David Evans made his Nittany Lion dual debut at 141 for No. 2 Beau Bartlett and impressed the Nittany Lion faithful, posting a 19-4 technical fall at 6:13 to give the Nittany Lions a 14-0 lead.

Cowboys Pick Up 18th-Straight Win over Oklahoma, 28-9
NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma State wrestling team defeated No. 18 Oklahoma, 28-9, on Sunday at McCasland Field House in the first of two Phillips 66 Bedlam Series duals. With the win, OSU remained undefeated at 3-0 while the Sooners dropped to 4-2. The win was Oklahoma State’s 18th straight over the Sooners and No. 150 in the all-time series. OSU leads the series with Oklahoma, 150-27-10, while John Smith is 57-6-3 against the Sooners as head coach.
OSU won four of five matches prior to intermission to a secure a wide lead and never looked back. Mids Win Final Five Bouts To Beat Ohio 27-12
JEFFERSON, PA. – The 17th-ranked Navy wrestling team (5-0) rallied from a nine-point deficit to defeat Ohio (2-1), 27-12, on Sunday afternoon at Jefferson Morgan High School in Jefferson, Pa.
The Bobcats won four of the first five bouts (149, 157, 174, 184) to take a 12-3 lead. The Mids claimed victories in the final five matches (197, 285, 125, 133, 141) to score 24-unanswered points in their fifth dual win of the season.  “The fans who attended really provided a great atmosphere for the team to compete in. Columbia Wrestling Uses Three Pins To Defeat No. 19 Northern Iowa
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Columbia exploded for three wins via fall to take a 28-21 victory in the dual match at No. 19 Northern Iowa on Sunday afternoon at the McLeod Center. The Lions capitalized on six bout wins to earn their first dual match victory of the season.
No. 11 Angelo Rini used two takedowns in the first period to take control of the 133 bout against No. 17 Julian Farber. Farber tried to claw back in the second period, but Rini battled back with an escape point. Rini also controlled the riding time throughout the bout to finish off an 8-3 decision victory.

No. 22 Terps Cruise Past Morgan State, 35-6
BALTIMORE, MD — No. 22 Maryland wrapped up competition in 2023 with a road win in Baltimore, defeating Morgan State 35-6 and winning eight of ten bouts on the afternoon. 
The Terps started strong, winning all five of the first bouts, including four of the five by bonus points. Braxton Brown got a first-period pin and Dario Lemus and Ethen Miller each won by technical fall to follow. 
After dropping a couple of matches, the Terps won the final four, highlighted by tech fall wins from Jaxon Smith and Seth Nevills to close the match.
