Boise State will have to make baseball a hit without having a home
TDR Ed’s Notes; More evidence that the men who made the decision to drop a successful low cost wrestling program so they could take on an expensive money losing baseball program and they do not even have a stadium to play in. Just more excuses to lose more money in the athletic department. Almost as foolish as UNO and Trev Albert who dropped a 3 time defending national championship program so that they could lose millions each year by adding on Ice Hockey and many losses in Division I sports. Arrogant foolish decisions by athletic directors have hurt wrestling more than Title IX.

BSU President Bob Kustra speaks Nov. 17, 2017, about the decision to cut the school’s wrestling program and establish a baseball team instead. “While I know there’s many wrestling advocates out there, they can’t compete with America’s national past time. By Darin Oswald It was April 2017 when then-Boise State President Bob Kustra announced the big news: The school was dropping wrestling to revive a baseball program, with the 2020 season targeted for the sport’s return.
About a year away from that first season, the Broncos have coaches, uniforms, the first dozen recruits on campus — they held practices starting last September — and land that the university acquired to build a stadium near campus. What’s still missing is a place to hang their hats and bats for games. BSU spokesman Greg Hahn confirmed with the Statesman last week that the school is still in the negotiation stage with potential developers for a facility located just south of Albertsons Stadium — on a parcel where houses and other structures still stand — and the university acknowledged the obvious time crunch in a press release Friday:

Women’s wrestlers make history for Menlo College
When the Menlo College women’s wrestling team touched down at Atlanta Airport last week, the city was still reeling in the wake of Super Bowl LIII. It was an appropriate vibe for the Oaks, who were heading to Marietta, Georgia to make some history of their own. Unlike the dynastic New England Patriots, though, Menlo College had never won a national title — in any sport. That changed over the weekend as the Menlo Oaks earned their school’s first-ever national crown Saturday at the Cobb County Civic Center in the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championship. Paul Morina wins 700th match as Paulsboro captures 32nd state wrestling title
TDR Ed’s Notes; – Our Congratulations to Morina in New Jersey.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It seems like just yesterday that Paul Morina won his 600th match as Paulsboro High School head wrestling coach. And while it wasn’t that recent, it was only four years ago. On Sunday, Morina captured No. 700 as the Red Raiders won their New Jersey record 32nd state title and fourth straight overall with a 63-3 victory over Kittatinny in the NJSIAA/Rothman Orthopaedics Group 1 final. Morina is 700-43-4 in his 34-year career. The Red Raiders have lost just three times in their last 103 matches. “I didn’t even know until this week how many wins I had,” said Morina. “If you stay focused on what’s in front of you all that other stuff falls in place. These state championships are what’s important. It’s important for the kids, this group of seniors never lost a state championship and that’s special.” Rest of the Story at http://highschoolsports.nj.com/news/article/-3931531305094258363/paul-morina-wins-700th-match-as-paulsboro-captures-32nd-state-title/?mc_cid=43fb0bb18d&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
Graham wrestling quiets doubters, wins 7th straight state dual team title
TDR Ed’s Notes; As we look north to the Buckeye state for some wrestling news …
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
COLUMBUS — New coach. New faces. Same result.
Graham High School’s wrestling stranglehold on the OHSAA state dual team championships was questioned this season with the retirement of coaching legend Jim Jordan and the graduation of six standout seniors. Yes, the opposition closed the gap on Graham in the D-II finals. But in historic St. John Arena – host to the Ohio State University marching band’s popular Skull Sessions – the Falcons won their seventh team title in as many tries.
The win was especially satisfying for first-year coach Travis McIntosh, who served as Jordan’s assistant the previous three seasons. The buzz was this could be the season Graham’s streak of six straight dual team titles and 18 individual state team titles ended. SEARCH UNDER WAY FOR COACHES; TEAM WILL COMPETE IN FALL
By SCOTT QUEEN / squeen@centralmethodist.edu

One of the oldest sports known to man is coming to one of the oldest colleges in Missouri. Wrestling is just around the corner at Central Methodist University. Campus officials made the announcement today, committing to start men’s wrestling and women’s wrestling in the fall of 2019. In addition, they announced a fundraising campaign to renovate one of CMU’s oldest buildings, Clingenpeel Hall. Clingenpeel will be the future practice home to the wrestling program. CMU Athletics Director Brian Spielbauer this week launched a national search for two head coaches. The coaches will be tasked with recruiting 50 student-athletes–25 men and 25 women–to begin competition in the 2019-2020 season.
“We’re looking for two special individuals to run these programs,” Spielbauer said. “They will have to be focused on winning, but also focused on student success—that means helping young men and women complete their degrees and graduate, but also prepare for the job market and contribute to our society in a positive way.” President Roger Drake said the academic expectations are high for the new wrestlers. “CMU athletes are scholars and we’ll expect wrestling to compete in the classroom as well as in the arena,” Drake said.
