The Ultimate Guide to Wrestling Camps
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – (March 15, 2010) – A new book that will help educate and inform wrestlers and parents on how to make the best possible decision when it comes to picking a wrestling camp, club and other training options is now on the market. The book, The Ultimate Guide to Wrestling Camps, is for sale at wrestlingcampguide.com. With interviews, comments and information from over 40 of the most informed and knowledgeable people involved in the sport of wrestling from across the country, this book is not only an educational resource for wrestlers, it’s a valuable tool for parents who are trying to learn more about the training opportunities available for their son or daughter. The book provides tips and information for wrestlers of all ages, including youth wrestlers, middle school wrestlers and high school wrestlers.
Read the complete list of sources and chapter breakdown The author of the book is Matt Krumrie, former editor of TheWrestlingMall.com and contributor to W.I.N Magazine and The Guillotine. “What I did was take the advice, comments and experiences of those who are involved with camps, clubs and training and coaching wrestlers and turned it into resources and stories that can benefit wrestlers and their parents,” says Krumrie. “Parents spend hundreds and often times, thousands of dollars on a kids wrestling career, traveling to events and tournaments, taking them to club practice, attending summer camp. The goal of this book is to inform and educate and help the parent make the best decision for their budget and the wrestler the best decision for his or her career. The Ultimate Guide to Wrestling Camps does just that”

Ness Completes Perfect Season : Omaha, Neb. – Recently crowned four-time All-American Jayson Ness sealed the deal today (Mar. 20), completing a perfect season with his first career National Championship. The tension ran high in his 11-minute 1-0 win in the semifinals, but that was nothing compared to the drama that unfolded tonight. In a rematch of the Big Ten championship, Ness was matched up with Daniel Dennis of rival Iowa. Despite several close calls, Ness had only an escape to his credit and trailed 1-4 after Dennis scored his second takedown with just 1:20 to go in the third period. Ness was able to escape but still trailed two and needed to score. As the clock ticked down, past a minute, past 30 second and past 15 seconds he was still behind. Then, with just five seconds left in his career, Ness shot and landed the biggest takedown yet. Once he had Dennis on his back, he got the near fall call and the clock hit zeros. “I was just thinking about getting a takedown to tie it up,” Ness said of the final 10 seconds. “I came after him ass hard as I could. Good things happen when you wrestle hard for a full seven minutes.”
Jayson Ness Wins Hodge Trophy : Newton, Iowa – Minnesota Wrestling senior, and new National Champion, Jayson Ness has been bestowed the greatest honor in college wrestling, as the winner of the Dan Hodge Trophy, announced today (Mar. 26) by Wrestling Insider News Magazine (W.I.N.). The honors continue to pour in for the Bloomington, Minn. native, who was also named Big Ten Wrestler of the Year and the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the National Tournament, by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Ness completed his first perfect season at 31-0, winning his first National Title the 2010 NCAA Championships. He also won his second Big Ten title just two weeks prior at the Big Ten Championships. The Dan Hodge Trophy, considered the Heisman Trophy for amateur wrestling, has been presented to the nation’s best wrestler since 1995. Created by W.I.N. founder Mike Chapman, the award is named after the former three-time University of Oklahoma national champion (1955-57) who never allowed a takedown in his college career. He also pinned 36 of his 46 victims. Criteria for the award; a wrestler’s record, number of pins, dominance on the mat, past credentials, quality of competition, sportsmanship, citizenship and heart. “Winning this award is an amazing feeling as there were many great wrestlers competing this year,” Ness said. “I feel extremely honored to receive this prestigious award.” Ness edged out Iowa State’s Jake Varner and Iowa’s Jay Borschel, champs at 197 and 174 respectively. Each also capped off undefeated seasons, but Ness earned the honor on the strength of his number of pins. Finishing with one of the best seasons in school history, Ness claimed 19 of his victory’s by fall, nearly doubling Varner and Borschel.
Brester Finishes Runner-up at 2010 NCAA Championships
Qwest Center Omaha –Nebraska senior Craig Brester (197) came up just short of a national title as he fell to No. 1 Jake Varner (Iowa State), 5-2, in the finals of the 2010 NCAA Championships at Qwest Center Omaha. Brester finishes a spectacular career with his third All-America honor, while leading Nebraska to a tie for 12th-place in the team standings with 39.5 points. ”Craig is a special guy – a three-time All-American,” head coach Mark Manning said. “He made one little mistake, otherwise he would have been a four-time All-American after being a walk-on. … There are big shoes to fill.” Brester finished his NU career with a 109-21 record, including a 30-3 mark in 2009-10. He leaves his name in the school record books with the eighth-best winning percentage (.838). One of only 18 Huskers to reach 100 wins. Brester is the 12th Husker to earn three All-America awards.

Koehnlein’s berth for the national tournament increases Nebraska’s representation to five qualifiers who will be competing at Qwest Center Omaha next week. In addition to Koehnlein, senior Craig Brester (197), senior Stephen Dwyer (174), sophomore Tucker Lane (Hwt) and redshirt freshman Josh Ihnen (184) had previously earned automatic-qualifying spots following Saturday’s Big 12 Championship in Norman, Okla. A junior college transfer from Westminster, Calif., Koehnlein finished the season with an 18-15 record, including an 11-9 mark in dual action. The 141-pounder cracked the national polls in late February when he earned a No. 20 national ranking from InterMat heading into postseason competition. It will be Koehnlein’s first Division I national championship appearance, although he was a two-time junior college All-American at Cerritos College (Norwalk, Calif.) before transferring to Nebraska. Qualifying spots were based on Division I winning percentage, RPI and coaches ranking. The 2010 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships take place next Thursday-Saturday, March 18-20 at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.

Arizona State’s Anthony Robles ready to make run at NCAA title TheMat.com
Shawn Charles had heard about the legendary work ethic of Arizona State’s Anthony Robles. He heard about the kid who could cover a mile in just eight minutes—on crutches. And about the kid who walked across the wrestling room on his hands. And the kid who—never, under any circumstances—took a shortcut. But when the first-year Arizona State coach saw first-hand just how hard Robles worked, Charles was blown away. The junior from Mesa, Arizona, is ranked third nationally and has compiled a 24-2 record this season after placing fourth in the NCAA tournament as a sophomore. MORE
National Collegiate Wrestling Championships tickets now on sale NCWA
The 2010 NCWA National Championships will kick off on March 11th, 12th & 13th at the Convocation Arena on the campus of Hampton University in Hampton, Va. The favored team to win the national title this years is anyone’s guess, but as Marion Military Institute closes out their regular season the coaches poll has them as the top ranked team after winning the National Duals in January. The defeating of other likely team champions including Grand Valley State, Westchester, Central Florida or the defending Champion Apprentice School seems to have opened some eyes. With over 60 All-American’s likely to qualify to return for a shot at the title this will prove to be the most competitive nationals in over a decade.

Sanderson has Lions cooking on the mat Centre Daily Times Many years ago, a former college wrestling coach was asked about how his team would do that season. His blunt response—put in a little kinder language here—came in cooking terms and that how it would be difficult, given his team’s current ingredients, to make chicken salad. Well, Cael Sanderson must have gone to a different culinary school. The first-year Penn State coach is on par with Emeril Lagasse or Bobby Flay. Sanderson’s No. 10 Nittany Lions concluded with a 26-16 loss to Minnesota and have a (13-6-1) dual record & (5-3) in the Big Ten. MORE
