Drexel University Dragon wrestling
Drexel just completed in our first competitions of the year. The coach is very pleased with the team’s performance. The team traveled out to California last week to take on Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield and wrestle in the Roadrunner Open. The trip started off in Bakersfield where we beat Cal Poly 28-11 and then lost to Cal State Bakersfield in a very exciting, down to the wire dual 18-25. Some highlights in the duals were the four pins recorded by Austin Sommer 157 lbs. and Brandon Palik 197 lbs. Shane Fenningham 149 lbs. and Jamie Callender 285 lbs. both earned two wins on the night as well. Overall we wrestled very well. The guys are wrestling very hard and looking for bonus points. We had 12 wrestlers compete in the tournament. The day started off great, we recorded eight pins in the first two rounds! Brandon Palik lead the way with a first place finish at 197 lbs. Shane Fenningham continued to wrestle very well taking second and finished the weekend 6-1 overall. Frank Cimato placed third at 141 lbs. and Bryan Sterlieb placed fourth at 184 lbs. The weekend was a great success on the mat and we even got to do some sightseeing at Sequoia National Park and Venice Beach along the way. Next up is the East Stroudsburg Open on November 17th. Go Dragons!
