BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University wrestling team picked up its first dual victory of the season on Friday night as it handled Long Island University (LIU), 40-3, at the Nelson Field House. The Huskies improved to 1-3 overall while the Sharks dropped to 2-14 on the season in its inaugural year at the Division I level. CHASE SINGLETARY LIKELY OUT FOR SEASON, JORDAN DECATUR BURNING REDSHIRT
Two major roster changes are coming for the Buckeyes with the new year, one eagerly anticipated and the other… not so much.
First, the bad news: Redshirt sophomore Chase Singletary, the ninth-ranked heavyweight in the country according to FloWrestling, will likely miss the remainder of the season. The big man wrestled just three matches in the 2019 portion of the season before sustaining an injury at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, having missed early-season meets while representing Team USA at the U23 World Freestyle Championships in Budapest.
“It’s bigger than we thought,” Ryan told reporters at the Jennings Wrestling Facility Friday afternoon. “…so we’re leaning toward medicalling Chase [sic]. It’s that bad. He’s missed enough training and it looks like it’s going to linger on another 4-6 weeks.”
Gary Traub has become something of a fan favorite filling in for Singletary this season. The redshirt junior from Cincinnati’s Sycamore High School seemed destined to be a career backup, having sat behind Kyle Snyder and then Singletary, and now has his opportunity to make a name for himself in the starting lineup.
“‘Gas Tank Gary’ has really been a lightning rod for the team from an energy standpoint,” Ryan said. “Hat’s off to Gary. Gary’s ready, excited. 8th Women’s Wrestling News, Results & Report

NCAA postseason tournament officially announced, vote for emerging sport status approaches
The Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Coalition shared a press release on December 16th with details about the first National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships—a postseason tournament exclusively for NCAA member institutions.
The First Annual Cliff Keen National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships will be hosted by Adrian College, and is scheduled for March 6-7, 2020. The announcement nearly brings the story we’ve been following since September full circle, when several NCAA programs quietly added a new postseason tournament to their schedules: NCAA women’s wrestling programs to compete at exclusive championship event. After confirming specifics with WLAG, we were able to share an in-depth look at NCAA milestones—including the development of the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Coalition—in mid-October: NCAA women’s wrestling: Understanding recent milestones.
Formally establishing the NCWWC signals continued momentum in the efforts to bring women’s wrestling into the NCAA as a championship sport. But, while the headline singles out an exclusive championship open to all NCAA programs, it should also call to mind the approaching January vote that will determine whether or not women’s wrestling will be assigned emerging sport status for August 1, 2020. That vote is scheduled for the third week in January (logistics tbd). All three divisions will vote on the recommendation made in June, 2019, by the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics. In New York ;
At Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, Isabella Garcia is not only competing, but she’s winning.
She’s one of many female wrestlers these days who are joining boys’ teams. Standing about 5 feet tall in the 106-pound division, Isabella Garcia says she always ready to rumble. “I’ve been doing karate for I think 10 years now and my karate instructor, he suggested that I try wrestling because I liked the ground fighting and the grappling that we did. So I tried it freshman year,” Garcia says. But while Garcia had some experience, it still wasn’t an easy start. “Maybe in the beginning, beginning, like early her freshman year, I was like ‘Oh, this girl might not last.’ Not that she did anything that would tell me that,” says coach Anthony Tortora. “But once we were about a month into her freshman year, I could sense that she liked the sport a lot and she was going to work her hardest to be as good as she could be at it.” Garcia never gave up and her determination eventually paid off. Recently, Garcia reached the pinnacle of her young wrestling career by becoming the first girl ever to win the Pawlings Round Robin Tournament, which also happened to be her first ever boys’ tournament victory. It was an achievement that not even she believed was possible when she started wrestling. 6th High School Notes & News

TDR Editor’s Notes : The first article is an interesting idea as an All-Decade team would generate interest , discussion by coaches, wrestlers and fans. We welcome input from readers about All-Decade and All-Time teams for Eastern North Carolina.

In Iowa ;
The Gazette’s area wrestling Team of the Decade
Union’s Max Thomsen, Lisbon’s Brad Smith are the best of the 2010s
Eastern Iowa remains fertile ground for prep wrestling talent. Each year the area churns out some of the best wrestlers, regardless of class. Determining an all-decade team from The Gazette’s circulation area is no easy task. Two-time state titlists and four-time state medalists aren’t assured of a spot on the list of graduates, spanning from 2010 to 2019. As a staff, we agreed not to include anyone currently wrestling and the Class of 2020 has some exceptional talent. I tried to limit one wrestler per weight class. With the change in weight classes between the 2011 and 2012 seasons, I stretched the rules to include a few who had wrestled at the old classes. The decade was filled with three four-time state champions and six three-timers, including three who were four-time finalists. Iowa City West’s Nick Moore (Class 3A), Max Thomsen (2A) and Carter Happel (1A) are among Iowa’s 27 four-time state champions and none of them suffered more than one career loss. Plenty of coaches continued Hall of Fame careers. High School Insider: Wyoming Seminary cruises at Powerade
As we reached the New Year and the beginning of a new decade, we also hit full stride in the heart of the high wrestling season. With Beast of the East and Ironman well in the rearview mirror, we entered the holiday tournament season and looked ahead to big events on the other side of the country like Doc Buchanan in California and the Cheesehead Invitational in Wisconsin. But first, let’s catch up on some of the big news you may have missed throughout the week that was. We start with Powerade, where, with no Blair Academy in the field, Wyoming Seminary entered as an overwhelming favorite and likewise rolled to victory with 272 points, nearly 100 points in front of second-place Malvern Prep. But it wasn’t all sunshine and roses for the Blue Knights. Down at 106, it appears coach Scott Green has a decision to make. Danny Sheen, a Fargo champ from Illinois, has been the rep at Ironman, XCalibur and now Powerade. But Sheen lost last weekend in the round of 16 and failed to place. Meanwhile, Super 32 middle school champ Brandon Cannon repped Sem at Beast of the East and won the 106-pound title in a field that included No. 1 Marc-Anthony McGowan. So where does Green go from here at 106?
Then at 126, No. 1-ranked Nic Bouzakis appeared well on his way to a championship before an illegal mat return injured opponent Kurtis Phipps of Norwin and Phipps was ruled the winner via disqualification. While he wrestled back to seed for third, seventh-ranked Drew Munch lost to previously unranked Gabe Wilochell in the quarterfinals. Wilochell went on the win the weight, however. Lastly, the Blue Knights are still without Jake Kaminsky at heavyweight. Kaminsky is ranked No. 4 in the nation.
