NATIONAL WRESTLING DAY
November 3RD, 2012 Press Release From the Pennsylvania Wrestling Newsmagazine:
After launching National Wrestling Day last December 5th to bring awareness to when “The Wrestling Season”
begins, the Pennsylvania Wrestling Newsmagazine and its founder, Joe Baranik, have joined in with the Greater Washington Wrestling Business Network and the DC Athletic Club to present ‘NATIONAL WRESTLING DAY’ on November 3, 2012. The Nov. 3rd date was chosen to highlight the NWCA All-Star meet to take place at American University in our nation’s Capitol. George Mason University and the U. of Maryland will also be assisting with the NWCA All-Star meet.
The key bout of the night will pit 3x NCAA Champion Kyle Dake of Cornell against 2x finalist and national champion David Taylor of Penn State at 165 lbs. Dake is attempting to become the first 4x NCAA wrestling champion who did not red-shirt. This will be an All-Star meet like no other as wrestlers from the NAIA, Div. 3, Div. 2, and the NCWA will have wrestlers competing. The wrestlers will be wearing camouflage singlets as opposed to school uniforms to honor our military. Also, there will be an utograph session with Olympic medalists and NCAA champions and “Wondrous Wade Schalles” will be one of the former wrestling greats to put on clinic prior to the meet. Our hope is to have the whole “Wrestling Nation” pull together and celebrate the start of the 2012-13 wrestling season. The day will include clinics and tournaments across the country, culminating with the NWCA All-Star meet at 7:30 pm.

DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the first time in program history, Davidson wrestling will host a Big 10 team when perennial national power Ohio State visits Belk Arena on Nov. 15 as part of the Wildcats’ 2012-13 season schedule, announced Tuesday by head coach Bob Patnesky. Davidson will face 19 opponents in dual meets and compete in one open tournament. The ‘Cats have seven home dates in Belk Arena, of which three will be tri-meets. “We tried to create a balanced schedule to test ourselves to the best of our abilities,” said Patnesky. The Wildcats will open the wrestling season hosting a tri-meet with regional foes Belmont-Abbey and Spartanburg Methodist on Nov. 4, and then visit another regional rival in nearby Anderson University Nov. 7. NC State’s Wolfpack Open will serve as the final tune-up on Nov. 11 before the Buckeyes visit Belk. “We’re very excited that Ohio State is going to come to Davidson,” said Patnesky. It’s great for our program to have a Big 10 program coming here. We’re working with various departments on campus to make this a big event, as it will help us get people involved with our program.”
Nine members of the Ohio State wrestling team are ranked in the Top 20 of the preseason Amateur Wrestling News individual polls, led by defending national champion Logan Stieber at 133 pounds. As a team, the Buckeyes placed fifth at the NCAA Championships. “It will be a tough test, but the kids are excited for it and we’re up for the challenge,” said Patnesky. The ‘Cats will hit the road for over two months following the Ohio State meet. Davidson will compete in a tri-meet hosted by Sacred Heart, also facing Roger Williams, Dec. 1 before opening the Southern Conference slate Dec. 6 at The Citadel. After a month-long break for exams and the holidays, the Wildcats will return to action with atrip to Pennsylvania to face Franklin & Marshall (Jan. 11) and then Pittsburgh and Lock Haven as part of the Pitt Duals on Jan. 13. Following a conference match at Gardner-Webb Jan. 22, the Wildcats will return to Belk Arena Jan. 27 to host a tri-meet with league-foe VMI and non-conference foe Boston University. Knights Wrestling Report
September/2012 By Coach Joe Baranik
The Knights Wrestling Team is in full attack mode as we start the pre-season workouts for the 2012/13 season. It is an exciting time for St. Andrews Wrestling (SAW), as we embark on our 7th year of having a program since 1970. Five major factors that drive my enthusiasm; 1) Justin Hoover (All-American last year), has been hired as our first full-time assistant coach 2) we return All-American sophomore Denzel Vaughan 3) we brought in 12 new recruits 4) we are now officially in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and 4) we will host the NAIA National Qualifier on February 16. Our 25 member squad has been working hard at 6:20 am on Monday, Wed. and Friday with running and strength training and developing their technique in the afternoons.
